    Howdy,

Considering a jump to the new OR model but not convinced quite yet. 4x4 for sure.

I like my 2013 ok. I'm about even on payments so could just assume another year of payments with a modest down so not a money issue per se.

But I could invest say $3000 in ???? (locker...???) to beef up the Sport towards OR specs.

I kinda like the idea of brand new as I've never had a brand new one. My Sport has ~40k miles.

Anyway if you have any opinions pro or con about the big differences I'd love to hear!

    Thanks,

You have the best year. But I'm sure there's a sales guy that would love to take it off your hands for trade-in.

    Haha!

They already called me about trade in! Only had it 5 months at the time.

I do like the idea the Sport has beefier differential (right?) and would be superior with the proper locker installed.

I'm not sure about all the computer controlled traction but see a lot of people really like it..... I've yet to get stuck but yet to puch it too hard either. I get about 20 miles off road a month in Tucson AZ region.

    Thanks,

    Aztex

Have you driven a 3rd gen? I did, and there's no way I'd trade my 2nd gen. The drivetrain is a deal breaker.
But maybe you'd fall in love with the interior - the keyless ignition, etc., lots of nice upgrades.
Personally, I'd put the money into better speakers & head unit.

I would say keep your '13 unless you really want something new. I think you'll regret trading it in.

I'll admit, I was pretty skeptical, but a friend of mine did some pretty amazing stuff with crawl control and stock tires a few weeks ago. As one of the guys we were with mentioned, "computers making it up hills". I still love 2nd gen though.

Agreed. Unless you really want all the new bells n whistles (i personally dont mind the 3rd gen engine and trans, dad has one and its NICE inside, super quiet). and either save the money or get an ARB locker for the rear and you will have your TRD OR sans atrac in the front.

I regretted trading my '13 in for a 2017. Back in a '15 now. :anonymous:

    Too few to list.
In 2015, I looked and drove three 2016's (SR, Sport, OR) then I immediately purchased a 2015 before supply and color choice was gone.

I have never done it but someone said they changed their mind after he started reading over on the 3rd gen side of TW and seen all the problems they are having.

    Nope!

    Not even close!

Just starting to investigate. Come to think of it I checked one out before I bought my 2013. Just sat in it and didn't like it. Not sure why.

Long process but as of now and what I've heard I'll be looking at upgrades for my 2nd gen too!

Thanks, and if any specific advice please keep it coming!

Just FYI for the 3rd gen the Off Road has a beefier rear differential. 8.4" I believe can anyone confirm? The sport is 8" I know that for a fact. I know there is a lot of hate towards 3rd gens on this forum which is understandable considering how rocky the start was with all the issues. But a lot of the issues have been resolved with either Transmission updates or other TSBs. There is a current recall on the rear differential weeping but they are expecting less than 1% to have an actual leak, the rest will just get their bolts re-torqued. So I never owned a 2nd gen so I can't really comment on ownership, I have driven them back when I worked for a Toyota dealership and I never really cared for the interior. I just though it was very plain. The 3rd gen interior is much more refined. Just my opinion, I have been very happy with my purchase.

I want to say new axles are 8.0in and 8.8in

TRD OR's all get the 8.8in diff and its BEEF! Looking at my Dads 3rd gen trd OR is quite a bit bigger than my 2nd gen TRD OR.

The "8.4"in diff you are referencing was the NON elocker axle used in the all 2nd gen 6 luggers... it wasnt actually bigger than the 8.0in elocker diff found on the 2nd gen trd OR's, but it became known as the "8.4" as it is different and slightly stronger.

just looked up nitro gear and they're selling 8.75" for the "with OEM locker" so is it 8.8" or 8.75? Either way I believe that is different from the 2nd gen. Isn't it true that the 2nd gen the sport diff was bigger and beefier and now its the other way around?

8.8 / 8.75 people are calling the bigger 3rd gen diff by those two names.

2nd gen sport diff "8.4" was beefier (cradle caps on main bearings and 10 bolt ring) but not physically bigger than the 2nd gen 8.0in elocker diff with an 8 bolt ring and non cradle caps.

I have a 2nd gen and my roommate has a 3rd. I like the looks and new features of the 3rd gen, but they seem so damn sluggish compared to the 2nd gen.
