I used relentless fabrocation mounts that i powder coated black. You can get them from them powder coated but it tAkes forever. I got a mounting bracket and extinguisher from my local off road shop (off road warehouse).

The relentless moubts Are a little overkill and pretty expensive... but i had an extra set laying around.

As my first "mod" I purchased and installed the Toyota all weather mats along with the Toyota rubber bed mat and installed over the weekend. I also laid down a nice coat of carnuba wax this past weekend, although I then questioned how old the paint was as wax can cause issues on paint that's not fully cured. Next on the list is Rotiform SIX-OR wheels with Toyo tires and a front grill!

Just a heads up, I'd avoid using the description "random orbital" versus "dual action" because it can lead you to crap like a black & decker 20 dollar wax spreader. Junkman is a great youtube channel. I learned most of my paint correction stuff from him.

I prefer menzerna since it worked a lot better on harder german paint than Meg's did. Also Menzerna has FG400 which was basically like 105/205 together. No need for 2nd polish unless you wanted to jewel the paint.

I've never worked with Mazerna but I've heard good things.

I rarely have to use both on the cars that I detail (family and friends for pizza and beer... sometimes money) because they take care of their cars but I have had to.

The waiting until paint is fully cured adage only applies to aftermarket/repair work. Paint from the factory is cured/baked at high temps and is good to go soon as you bring it home.

I forgot to take pictures but I had some gnarly trail pinstriping on my inferno and just a few minutes with FG400 took it all off like new. It just works faster IMO.

You'd be surprised on what you can afford with how much german cars depreciate. Which is why I probably would never buy one again (Except for maybe a C63 AMG in perfect condition).

 

Okay, this is more of a concept than an actual project...

With today's built in nav, what happens if you need to "go dark" and not be tracked by evil space men?

I'm thinking it would be as simple as an electronic switch between the Tx line of the antenna and the antenna itself... basically flip the switch and the line is disconnected and the nav would show loss of satellites. Boom, no tracking the vehicle. Any other electronics/ avionics nerds out there care to chime in?

So the built in nav is a receiver only. Just like AM/FM and Satelite radio is receiver only. That is assuming you don't have a lo-jack transmitter installed... Evil space men track you via your cellphone.

 

Yeah, I know about the phones. Taking the battery out is easy. And are you 100% that the GPS is Rx only? Stuff like onstar definitely isnt.

It's as simple as logging into the GPS sats and searching for the vehicle's GPS tag and then looking at the coordinates. Since the sat needs to tell the vehicle where it is, the sats need to know where it is. Trust me, they can track you.

 

Haha, no. I know a chemical engineer who could make them disappear.....
