I took a couple with my cell a few weeks back i need to watch and see if you can hear it. Haven't had any time. A while back when i dropped it off for the needle bearing TSB, before the warranty ran out, i brought it up. They said they also did a TSB for pinging, but it had no effect. Couple tanks of high octane gas had no effect. It kinda sounds like pinging and kinda like a heat shield or CAT contents rattling around. Only on hard acceleration. I have other things that bug me about this truck, but nothing major i cant deal with, or fix later when i have the time. I still love the truck and none of this makes me want to get rid of it. Still less headaches than any other vehicle i have had. Just got to figure out the rattle/ping/whatever noise, just to make sure its nothing major, lol.

    Sorry OP for thread jack

It's a work in progress. See my build thread.
In that case, here's a shot of the one the dealer bought back, after the second breakdown.

Did someone? I suggested it back in the Taco down thread from last week but was too chicken as of the :crapstorm:show that would ensue.

Hell, I might do it the next time I'm drunk ......:bananadead:

There was definitely one last week that showed owners trucks on flat beds. Not sure if it was its own thread or started inside another one though.

UPDATE 5/9/17: And the problem was: FAILED Crank Position Sensor -- as many of you so astutely said. For 2 days, I asked my service tech if it might be the CPS. He said probably not. But turns out it was. I verified that the new CPS is a new model. He said is was "enhanced" from the original.

I'm going to file a complaint with the NHSTB.gov on this issue and I'd encourage others to do the same. Every tech at my dealership knew about the CPS problem. Although the fix was easy, I could have caused serious injury to myself or others if this failure occurred during rush hour. I was driving on the freeway with the car died. Filing with NHTSB is the only way to get Toyota's attention and have this recalled. A recall won't help me, as my CPS has already been replaced, but it may help others or even save a life. So it's worth the 5 minutes on: https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/Vehic...85.595260264.1494389876-1707369133.1494389876

Definitely Money, some egghead beancounter sits around figuring out the costs, the only thing they need to be careful of is a failure out on the interstate causing a deadly accident.

Do we know what the build date was on the few 2017s that had CPS failures? I wonder when they started to use the updated CPS in the builds.

Hmmm.. notice on the paperwork it states of the CPS: "..found open reading when at operating temp". I realize that this doesn't necessarily mean it was ok at ambient temp, but that's the inference. Some on here have been saying it's a heat soak issue, and it seems they may be right.

I'm any early build '16 and am thinking about this sensor every time I'm in the boonies lol.
