OK, know there's a lot of variables, but here's the short of it:

    2002 DC 4x4 SR5
    242k miles
ARB bull bar (pulled the winch out)
King coils up front (2 yrs old)
    Built Right UCA's
    NWOR shackles rear
Scratches / moderate body damage one rear corner and bed side (bumper, tail light replaced).
Otherwise decent shape for 15 yr old truck.
Bed has seen better days. Lots of firewood and camp hauling duties.
Smog good. Just put on 2 new cats.
    Runs fine...never any issues.

Was thinking starting at $6k. Seem about right? Have someone interested and looking tonight.

Check the frame for rust. Biggest priority.

No frame rust. Had pics of the damage on phone, now gone dammit. Will have to grab some tomorrow.

Want to swap out the stocker tires from the new one onto the Gen1 (the Goodyear MT's on it now have seen better days and make it ride like a roller skate with steel wheels) so it would have a brand new set of Goodyear stockers on it, and wanted to get a detail cleaning and wax done before I put it up, but had one of the maintenance guys at work who has had his eye on it for a while and wants to look at it tonight again. Told him I'd give him first crack at it once I figured out pricing. May have to stall him until I can make sure I'm not screwing myself on sell price.

As long as the body isn't too bad.. But in SoCal you could sell for 10K and it'd gone in 24 hours. 1St gen 4X4 DC's are pretty hard to find.

I'm thinking list at 10K, you'll get tons of offers from 6,000 up to (MAYBE) your asking. You should be able to fetch $8K (at least) in my opinion, depending on the interior and other factors not visible. The more clean your truck looks, the higher the price, despite the mileage. Not sure about 10K though

    Best vehicle I've ever owned.

If I don't sell the to the guy asking for it now who I promised I'd give first crack at it (and another guy from work asking today as well), I'll probably hang on a few more weeks and get the paintless dent repair thing done on the small dent (not creased) over the passenger front tire, and then get it detailed inside, washed and waxed outside before I put it up for sale. Definitely needs a good scrubbing inside and out to show its best, and I'd rather hold off and spend the time on it to get it looking right and get best I can for it.

It does have its fair share of desert pinstriping.

Only body damage is as shown, and a few minor dings (tailgate, doors). Bed has seen better days (worn, dings, dents). Looks a little better in pic than it actually is (pic too bright).

Front skid has taken a beating.

New factory LCA's when I replaced old Downey suspension with the King coilovers.

Crack in windshield (about 8" long, driver visor area, not in line of vision). Was considering replacing that before selling as well, but not sure it matters much.

Really can't think of anything I'd need to really disclose on it. Driver's side door unlock button doesn't work (lock half of button works). Minor leaks, but I've tried to keep up on them over the years (hate a leaking vehicle).

Has ABS system, but hasn't worked in 14 years, since I pulled the fuse the trucks first time off road in the mud and snow with it, and the damn ABS system did its best to send me down a hill toward a small canyon with seemingly no brakes, ABS telling me it knew better and chattering but not slowing the vehicle the entire way. Fuck ABS for off road work.

Paint on doors appears mismatched in the pics, but it is not. All original paint, except for hood that was repainted over 14 years ago after it was stolen and the knuckleheads put a small dent in the hood. Matches perfectly.

Does burn a little oil now. Go through about .5 to 1 qts between changes at 5k (best guess).

Verdict TW members? What should I start out for asking price?

And I feel damn good about mine as well. A lot of serious off road, hunting and outdoors adventures in that truck. Took me there every time, and brought me back every time. Without fail. Precisely the reason I bought Toyota.

If the new one looks much different in 15 years than this one does (IF it earns its place as long as the 2002 did), I've done something wrong. If I could put a price on those adventures, it would be a hell of a lot higher than the possibly $3k or so I lost because my truck isn't immaculate after 15 years of getting us "out there" and back.

Throughout the lifespan of your truck, have you ever noticed decreases in power/compression/acceleration? Has your engine driven funny after LONG road trips? Any change/lag in shifting at cetrtain RPMs?

Nothing a tune up and stock size tires or a re-gear wouldn't cure. Damn thing is still strong and tight. Really have not noticed a change in acceleration or power since I put the larger and heavier tires on 14 years or so ago. Love the engine. Has never been in for a single engine repair short of replacement of a slightly leaking water pump while they were in there changing the timing belt years ago.

Boggles my mind I've not had to replace so much as a starter or alternator under that hood after 240k miles. Plugs, wires, filters, belts....about it that I can recall.

There has never been anything strange about shifting or driving on this truck in all the years I've had it. Long trips, short trips, whatever. It has been very consistent from day one. I'd not hesitate to advise anyone with this configuration on the Gen1 to hang onto it for 300k or more miles. Largest expense I've had on it in all this time was to replace the cat converters and O2 sensors myself at a cost of about $550. Just wouldn't pass the last smog.

I've got a buddy with a 1998 Gen1, also with 240k miles (TRD OR Access Cab 4x2). I helped him replace his starter about 8 years ago. Don't think he's done much else to it other than tires, fluid changes, and tune ups in all that time. He may have replaced a steering rack as I recall.

If we had room for a 3rd vehicle so I could have a nice daily driver, I'd have this thing for another 10 years, and pull it out only for trips.
