My 02 tundra had some major issues requiring some major funds after 211k miles, so decided to get a new truck.

I test drove 3 tacoma's. The first one was a standard tacoma - did not like the ride, to bumpy.

2nd one came with 4x4, rode nice on the hwy. Salesman did not know anything about the 4x4. Turned out I tested the 4x4 and it would not engage/ disengage at the dealer properly so that was a big NO. They were stating oh thats normal. NOT. Stopped at another dealer, found the most knowledgeable person for the 4x4 to show how it works when it operates properly just in case I was wrong. I was not wrong it was a truck with issues.

I found me a truck at the new dealer - I had to work hard to get the price down. They finally caved a little.

2017 trd offroad 4x4 with 6 ft bed.

Test drive it all the way over to the side of the lot where the 4runners are sitting.

 Funny. We do love our 4Runner but if you NEED a truck bed, you need a truck bed.

Hey if you're planning on lifting and throwing 285s on the Tacoma, might as well get a new Tundra. Cost is pretty close and the fuel economy on the Tundra probably the same or better than a 3rd gen on 285s.

I like to kid around. I love/hate my truck. Wish I could afford a 4R and a Taco!

My experience was similar to yours in that I tried like hell to get a deal and they only came down a little bit. I've really enjoyed mine and I'm damn glad to have it!

Not planning doing any major upgrades for now. I like the way it is. Need to add nerf bar steps and get a bed cover. Had a topper on all of my previous trucks but this one I am thinking just a bed cover. Seen various variations of tonneau covers. Would like have one that could open at both ends. Typically I haul wood for projects so have find one will allow for that purpose. But also easy to get in / out.

I traded up from an '02 Tundra AC V8 myself. At 180K miles the truck still ran great but the interior was not so good. I'm glad I traded up and hopefully you will too. It took me a while to get used to the technology where my Tundra had none.
