I know this is a known issue many trucks. I had a similar issue with my past 05 4runner. While coming to a stop from driving at 40mph then depressing the brake you feel like you get tapped from the rear or feels like the drive shaft slips and hits something.

Well, i did grease the zerk fittings along the drive shaft at all points on my current truck and past 4runner, then i did feel like that it helped to reduce the clunk noise after some weeks but soon it came back.

Has anyone resolved this issue them selves or is this just something that happens with the gears not fully getting back to 1st gear when slowing down/stopping?

I have 2012 trd 4x4 taco, 80k miles. I see many threads on this but does anyone have a good solution?

Thanks in advanced to the replies!

Is there a lot of play in the carrier bearing?

2013 access cab, 4.0, auto....mine does this frequently, not every time, and has since new. Does it more on a level or up hill stop than down hill, some times even at a complete stop, certainly feels like a slight rear ender. Analyzied many many times, came to the conclusion it is the transmission catching up to movement of the truck.

A yoke on the drive shaft needing grease is a common cause for this on all trucks.
