Bought a 2015 Tacoma SR5 Prerunner Texas Edition w/ 32k miles on it for $27k. I am new to Toyota and to trucks.

First Mods - WeatherTech, Tint, Black Badges, LED Interior lighting, Front Cup Holder.

A little more down the road - different side steps, might do a small lift/level, front end/skid plate, grille, head/tail/backup lights.

Bugaboos so far - no lock on the tailgate?!, front passenger window or windshield whistle around 60-70mph, noise coming from the fan when the A/C kicks on.

The warranty is out after 36k. I'm currently sitting at 33.5k and will be taking it in this weekend to have some of these things worked on. Does anyone have suggestions as to things to ask the dealership to look over?

Any recommendations or photos of your trucks with any of these mods will help out!

    THANK YOU!!!IMG_0669.jpg

Welcome to TW and congrats on the truck!

For the grill you may want to check out the OEM TRD Pro grill, though there are also many aftermarket ones available as well.

You can get an aftermarket pop-n-lock tailgate handle with a lock. If you are just worried about tailgate theft, look at:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/tailgate-theft-how-to-prevent-it.27829/

    For reverse lights, check out:

    For headlights see:

If you plan on taking the truck off road, sliders may be better than steps, they are stronger and help protect your truck.

Your truck looks good! I started with some of the same mods you have. I'm trying to figure out if I want to go with skid plate or bull bar. I'm sort of digging skid plates I think! Also, looking at that Pro grill but, don't want my truck to look like something it's not.

Nice truck..I always liked the Texas edition.

They really crept up that price on the 12-15 owners... my 2011 4x4 OffRoad purchased new was $29xxx at the time the 2012s were appearing on lots. In my area, a cosmetically worn, contractor used 2014 SR5 4x4 w/ 20k miles was in the $27k ballpark.

You might be able to complain about the fan noise to the dealer and get a new fan out of it.

I will definitely be complaining about the fan noise. It's really annoying to say the least.

    I have the same issue.

    Two things solve it:

    1. Drive with the windows down
    2. Turn up the stereo real loud
But really, go in and see if they'll replace it. I've heard that fixes it. May also want to pop open the glove box, pull the door of it off and pull out the cabin filter to see if there's a bunch of crap jammed into it. May or may not help, but it's worth a shot and so easy to do.

Another mod that was CRITICAL for me: Upgrade the stereo system! I use my truck as my DD so I can't live with crappy sounding speakers. Yours has more bells and whistles than the stock '06 stereo that was in mine but replacing the head unit will make a difference. I've seen it posted that the power rating on it is only 17 watts...? Not going to really push much sound out of even the OEM 'yota speakers with those specs.

Congrats on the purchase and you might want to kiss any disposable (or non-disposable, while you're at it) income GOODBYE. This site has been detrimental to my discretionary spending habits.

No offence but you have already lifted and are talking about putting skid plates on a 2WD truck and you are worried a TRD Pro grill will make it look like something it's not?

Thank you all for the warm welcomes. Very happy to be joining. Luckily, the previous owner had already installed a great touch screen display that's pretty awesome. Currently, I'm getting some good sound out of the speakers, but may upgrade way down the road. Going to focus on some of the cheap, little things that bother my OCD first. I don't have too much money to be spending on the truck, but if I'm going to have it for a long time I might as well make it what I want it to be!

@Bannerman Your right! Who cares it's my truck! Leveled not lifted by the way. Maybe I'll get some of those magnatic numbers for the doors.
