If you've ever broken your rear center slider, like I have, you've probably found that the only available option is to buy a whole new rear window since it comes fully assembled. Well if the slider is the only broken piece, you're in luck!

This was done on a 2014 double cab, but the back windows are the same on all 2nd gen's (I think! :notsure:)

    TOOLS REQUIRED:
    - Your new sliding window!
    - Exacto knife (a razor blade could work if you're careful)
    - Flat head screw driver (small one)
    - Your favorite sealant (I used black RTV silicone)

First, make sure you have a supervisor:
    20160326_171120[1].jpg

    ACQUIRE A NEW WINDOW
These can be found on ebay, junk yards, and probably a few other sources
    [links to come]
If you find a good link / price somewhere, please share it!

    STEP 1: REMOVING THE SEAL
    - Remove all broken glass, if any
    - Clear everything out of the back, if you have a double cab, lay the seats down so you have room to work
    - The sliding window is surrounded by a one piece seal to prevent leaks, this needs to be removed
    - Start on the driver side (latch side), and gently turn the seal inward, toward center
    20160326_165040[1].jpg
    - The seal is in a grove and should release with consistent gentle pressure
    - Begin pulling the seal out, be sure not to tear the seal. The corners will be more fragile
    20160326_165050[1].jpg
    - Do not pull the top of seal out (by the roof). This will stay in place! (if you do happen to pull it out, its not that hard to put back in, just make sure it is square so the window slides properly)

Here is where you need to start reading CAREFULLY!!!
    - Continue pulling the seal around to the bottom. You may need the screwdriver to get the seal loose on the bottom. Just get this started, don't pull the whole thing out
    [need to add pic]

    -
Use the screwdriver to pry up the far passenger side, and pull up the rest of the bottom channel. Use caution around the vertical seal on the passenger side, and DO NOT pull this one out!!!!!
    20160326_170153[1].jpg

    - The seal will need to be cut on the passenger side where it connects to the vertical "pressure" seal (see red line in pic)
    20160326_170232[1].jpg

    STEP 2: INSERT THE WINDOW
    -
Once the seal is removed, driver side and bottom only (as instructed), insert the window into the bottom grove first! There is a little extra space below the sliding window channel that should allow the window to go all the way in

    - The window can then be pushed into the top channel

    - Holding the window in the top channel, begin pushing the bottom seal back into place under the window
    20160326_170806[1].jpg

-It will take some finesse to get the seal worked toward the correct position. Be patient, this part took me 3-5 minutes

    - Once the seal is visible on the passenger side, grab it with the needle nose pliers, and pull it all the way into position. You can use the sliding window to help you do this. Be careful not to tear your seal
    20160326_170857[1].jpg

    - Press the driver side (latch side) vertical seal back into its grove. It should go in pretty easily

    STEP 3: SEALANT
    - At this point the window is functional so if you've had a really bad day you can return to this later, unless you live in a very wet area, then you might not want to skip this

    - With the window open, return to the small cut you made
    - Using your sealant, on the OUTSIDE of the truck there is a small gap tucked in the corner that you cut. Use the sealant and very carefully, cover up the cut. I cleaned this area with 91% alcohol before using sealant to ensure a proper seal
    [need to add pic]

    - Give your sealant whatever time it needs to cure, and you're done! :taco:

Where is this exactly? Can you post a pic of where you're referring to? My window should be here by the end of the week.

if you're sitting in the bed it would be the lower right corner of the window. you should be able to see where you had to cut the seal

Did this over the weekend. Didn't take long at all. Haven't put any sealant over the cut yet but it rained on and off all weekend with no signs of water in truck. Thanks Tacabode for this post!

To the OP. THANK YOU!!! I just did this. It took me longer to clean out the back seat than it did to replace the window thanks to you. You literally just saved me $1000.

    You rule dude. *cheers*

    Nice writeup!

My window seal comes out of the glass every time I open it. I'm going to try to use this method to remove the glass and get the seal back into it, maybe adding some glue to keep it there. Any warnings about removing the sliding glass? Mine's intact and I'd rather not try to comb ebay.

i'm sure it will not be easy to get the seal out from under your already intact window. be patient! you may have some serious difficulty getting the seal out where i said to cut it in the op. let me know how it goes. good luck!

    Thanks tacabode!
this tutorial helped me get my new slider window in. A thief broke it out yesterday in my work parking garage, just to steal a backpack containing my 72 hour emergency kit :annoyed: !!!

Karma will catch up with him...

Do the third gens still have the behind rear seat storage? I removed the plastic bins back there to gain some extra space

I’m a believer in Karma... he’ll get his....
The 3rd gens have storage behind the seats. If I was being smart I could have made my kit fit in there. There’s also some small bins under the seat that I can use. Believe me I’ll be using them now, and leave nothing in the open!

I replaced my rear slider today. I discovered that you can avoid cutting the window seal by removing the bracket that the window latches to. It's held in place by two small screws on the driver's side of slider opening. You can then peel out the window seal along the bottom, push the seal outside of the truck, and out of your way. Slip the slider into the opening, bottom first, then rotate the top in. Slide the window toward the drivers side of the truck; the wrong way from normal operation. Push the window seals back in and use a Chick Fil A giftcard to hold the seal back as you push the window toward the passenger side of the vehicle and back onto the seal. Replace the latch bracket, and enjoy a frosty beverage of your choice.

    Hope this helps!
