What you said isn't necessarily true. If you are stopped and go from D to S4 it doesn't start you out in 4th gear. It'll go 1,2,3,4 exactly like it does in D even if you have it in S4 the whole time. What it won't do is go to 5th or 6th when it would have in D.

With the box when you go from D into S mode it will go into whatever gear it deems appropriate based off what it reads from the OBD port. Look at the shift maps above to see what gear it would go for with X speed and X gas pedal. And yes it shifts automatically through all gears.

Yes, the initial shift into S goes into S4 (or S3 in rare instances) but the device knows this and will immediately index it up or down from there based on the engagement speed. If stopped when you engage it, you will see it shift down to S2, which is the lowest selection provided by the device. Even though you may see S2 on the dash, the truck will still start out from a stop in 1st (S sets upper limit). The reason for not going all the way down to S1 with ShiftSense is because the shifts between 1 and 2 are heavily influenced by torque-convertor operation and slip, which the OEM handles quite well (we tested it down to S1 but in the end felt it was unnecessary to command it to go that low). All shifts 2,3,4,5,6 up and down are handled by the 'box'.

Some of the initial proof-of-concept was done with arduinos, but no, the final product does not use an arduino. The brain of the device is however a similar AVR microcontroller chip to that used on arduino.

OP, is there any way we can get confirmation which order numbers were included in the initial batch before you ran out of stock?

    Looking forward to user reviews!

I've gotten used to dealing with the stock shift pattern of the truck, but there are daily annoyances that it sounds like this may remedy. An example is when slowing to make a turn...after turning, you press the accelerator to increase speed and it immediately upshifts to 4th at the worst possible moment...so you have to press harder to make it downshift again. I know automatic transmissions can't read your mind, but this "smart" transmission is about the most counterintuitive I've ever driven. I feel like I'm constantly fighting to make the truck speed up.

Thanks to all of you who quoted my post! I personally was understanding this is how it worked but so many questions were being asked in a round about way that I don't think some of the members understood exactly how it was going to shift. I'm very clear on the matter now and hopefully we all understand it. Thanks again for the explanations. Tomorrow is the day.......

I've had my taco for one year and reading this entire thread I decided to drive my truck like the way I think this box will work. I put the tranny in sport mode and didn't shift to a higher gear until the tachometer was around 2800 rpm and never shifted to 6th. So I was doing 75 and my cc worked great did not bounce around. And I didn't shift out of 4th under 50 mph. Not sure how much gas I went through but it felt like I had a lot of power. So if this thing does what I did myself with out me doing the shifting my in.

    Out for delivery from P.O.
Already set the pop up menu settings for S mode to not take up the whole screen during shifts.

[IMG]OP would this 1ft cable be long enough to have the box located under dash? If not what do you recommend?

Sorry if this was already covered, but with this device if you downshift on steep descents for engine braking does it still work?

Sorry, it was in the FAQS

How do I cancel the control if I want to drive with the OEM manual sequential-shift mode?Simply make an S+ or S- shift by hand. At this point, the system cancels, provides an alarm, and reverts back to manual control. The device will stand-by and remain inactive until it is intentionally re-engaged by the operator (moving the lever into drive, and back to Sequential "S").

This appears to cleanly provide a 3rd drive operation mode. Very smart. Good job.
