I did a locker on stock gears first. Then regeared about a year later (never claimed to be the sharpest tool in the shed). Doing the labor myself I'm only out $300 from doing it again.

If I were to start over, I'd do it at the same time. And add a front locker :). If anyone does a 4.88 regear and doesn't want a front locker, let's talk mmmkay?

Despite everyone's advice, I did not lock the front with the regear. I have ATRAC which is basically as good

And I have an uninstalled ARB dual compressor that comes with the locker wiring harness. Also a blank space on my @Iggy switch panel. In a nutshell, don't listen to me.

Yeah I think on our manual trans the speed sensor is at the transmission whereas on the automatic it's at the wheels

Forgot to add @Holloman to the list. He's on 35's with 4.56's. Also 6-speed.

@CrashN'Burn Ask those guys what they think. I only have 40 miles on mine.

On my 85 I did 5.29's and open front and a rear Detroit locker first.

I did the gears myself and I am not a patient person... bleh.

So then I wanted a front locker. I bought an inchworm high pinion arb air locker setup for about 2k...

    Super stoked on inchworm.

I sold my open front diff 5.29s for a couple hundred bucks.

If you are a patient perfectionist and are willing to buy the tools it's not so bad to do your own gears.

I was not one of those people :anonymous:

Although now with another car to drive, I wonder if it wouldn't be so stressful and and stress free thing to do.

    Might even be fun.

I'm running 4.56 with the auto and 285's. I think it's a good balance for daily driving and get that low end 4l grunt.
