Not having any luck finding good pictures. And I can't decide if black/dark gray or tan look better on MGM.

What's the allure with a soft topper?

I've seen some pretty cool setups with a soft topper covering a RTT.

Like how easily they set up / fold down. My main need/ want is to have it for my dog. Apparently you can get them with a front window. So he could ride in the back and still stick his head in to say hello!

Make sure to monitor the temp closely it could get really hot back there with that thin black material and no insulation or cooling.

I think most people roll up the sides when the dog is in the bed, otherwise there's no ventilation (no windows like on a hard shell).

Opening the rear window at the tailgate would just suck exhaust fumes into the bed, and opening the cab window doesn't really get much airflow. My dog would just jump into the cab, so I could never have my slider open anyway.

My dogs are hunting dogs and would jump out of the truck if they had an opening. First time they see a rabbit or other animal they'd take the leap.

Our wether up here doesn't get too hot. I think a combination of AC flowing back from the cab out the rear sliding window and into the bed, along with the screen window at the back should be sufficient.

He's a handful right now, so I will have to train him to behave back there. I wouldn't put it past him to just tear through it.....

    Here's the little demon himself.

Big thing for me is how quickly it comes down. With a hard topper (leer, ARE, etc) I would get more protection but less utility for tall or oddly shaped payloads. With the soft topper I can keep things dry or out of dust if needed and fold it up to haul larger items.

Honestly I never understood a hard topper - I would've kept the 4Runner if I truly needed one.

Sometimes I wish I could just run a bed rack but I think those make more sense for dry climates.
