That is about where my gauge sits. Let me guess, you are going off the new engine temp sensor?

Swap the sensor with the old motor or get an OBD reader so you know the true temp.

Is that the highest the temp gauge goes even when you're driving around? Or does it keep climbing? (don't let it get to the red if it does, obviously).

Where did you get the thermostat...usually the aftermarket stores carry different temp ranges and I've seen where you can get them rated at 160*, 180*, and so on based on the region. It's normally stamped on the thermostat, but you should be able to just check the part number.

Yes thats the highest it gets. Is that alright to drive on? I got the thermostat from our local parts store. I could see what it's rated at real quick

That reading is normal. As long as the gauge goes no higher, you are fine.

    Drive it.

When the truck is warm feel the radiator. If the temp differs from side to side the radiator can be plugged.

Get one of these so you know what the real temp is.

    40 bucks at harbor freight.

I forgot to mention I didn't just replace this motor. This motor has been in it for about a year

If you have an AC condenser make sure the radiator is not plugged up behind the AC condenser in the radiator area that area tends to get all plugged and you can't see it because the condenser is covering the radiator that's what happened to my truck when it was overheating
