Lol yeah if I didn't have a 2013 I wouldn't even have wasted my time on the FRS seats

Just curious though for the long run are they decently comfy?

I have a small frame, 5'9" and 145lbs so it felt real nice sitting in it but wondering about long drives.

I'm 6'2" and have no issues whatsoever with long drives in the FRS. I just went from Philadelphia to Syracuse New York last Thursday and Friday which is a over 500 mile round-trip with no issues.
The only thing I don't like about the damn car is getting in and out of it.
I'm pretty happy with the seats in my Tacoma though. One of the first things I did to it when I bought it was put a leather interior in it.

Finishing up everything. Finished up the seat position sensor mounting.

Doing a final touch up paint job of the seat bracket.....marred it up a bit yesterday trying to get everything lined up.

Once that's done it's going in the truck!

    Day 1 driving impressions:

Overall really enjoying the FRS seat. After making adjustments in my seated position it feels great! Seat is a little more firm than the stock TRD seat with wet okoles installed.

Felt a lot more comfortable on my 20 min drive to work this morning. Seat back + headrest position is a lot better in my opinion. With the seat + custom bracket it does "feel" overall taller by maybe an inch or so as I have not done accurate measurements yet, thus I did lower the seat down a tad to get back to what felt like stock height (which I am used to and prefer since I am 5'9").

And maybe its just a placebo effect but my drive home down a windy 2 lane going 60mph+ was noticeably better given I wasn't sliding around in my seat going around curves. Might have been in part to the slicker Wet Okoles I had on the TRD seats, but prior to seat swap I would need to brace myself if I took a curve at speed. Felt very much more planted in the FRS seat given the hip and shoulder bolsters.

My only con thus far is hopping in/out out of the truck with the higher hip bolsters is slightly more of a pain, and my only real concern with that is wearing down the seat fabric over time having to slide out. But then maybe some sliders/steps will solve that.

While I know you're still somewhat in the development phase, would love a write up to see what's involved.

Do you think the passenger seat is doable based on your experience?

Yeah I'll end up doing some sort of writeup whenever I get around to doing the passenger seat. I should've taken pictures while I did the driver's seat but I only have before/afters.

At the very least I'll put up an outline of the steps to do it.

Passenger seat should be 90% the same process. The only difference is the need for an "OCS bypass module", which MetalTech 4x4 sells. I contacted them last month and they finally replied and said they do still sell them and have about a 1 week lead time. The FRS seat uses the electrostatic detection system whereas the Tacoma uses a weight detection system so the two seats aren't compatible in that regard, so the OCS system requires you to transplant the passenger seat ECU and then it just plugs in and comes with a switch that allows you to activate/deactivate the passenger side airbag manually. I also don't think the passenger seat has the rail position sensor so no need to mess with that. So really sort of subtracting one step and adding another in comparison to driver side.

Just bought the passenger seat bracket. Lucky me they had one left on hand via Amazon, so don't need to wait a couple weeks for it to be made by Planted this time.

    Still need to acquire:
    1. Metal tech OCS bypass
    2. FRS passenger seat

I took measurements of the seat to gauge the difference height wise how low the FRS seat can get vs TRD seat. FRS seat sits roughly 2" lower than stock seat at lowest height setting.

TRD seat is roughly 8" at rear lowest point, and FRS seat is same at the BOLSTER, However the bucket is then 2" deeper at the rear most point vs the bolster. So ~8" for stock seat and 6" for FRS.

I've got a BRZ and like those seats just a bit more than the Tacoma's seats. I'm a big guy but the side bolsters fit me just right on the BRZ. I've always had trucks (still have my Tacoma and an 07 Ram 2500) but I love that little car!

    I agree with Homer

I've got a FR-S (#96 of only 1000) made and if I could score a set of seats (which I couldn't) I wouldn't put them in. The seats in the Tacoma are just fine but whatever floats your boat.

My seats in the one I have. Alcantara and Leather

Thanks for the tag mate. I'm keen to do a swap but the more I drive my wife's T4R, the more I want to use a set of those seats. Friend ordered a new LandCruiser and I'm keen to see what is offered for front seats there as the website shows something very impressive.

Still looking forward to seeing your passenger seat details as I know the occupancy sensor has me concerned. So ad my Russian friends would say...

    "флаг мне в руки!"

In English means "flag to your hand," or "lead the way."

No problem! At the very least the process should be applicable to all OEM swaps for the 09+ Tacomas w/ side airbags.

My OCS bypass came in the mail today.

All I need now is to get the passenger seat. When funds allow.

Dang it - spotted this thread and thought that I had gotten over the idea trying this exact same thing...

OP - what brackets did you use on these for mounting - planted?
