Hey all, I'm planning to go on a trip to the Bishop area near the end of May. Was wondering if anyone in the area could provide real time trail conditions of Coyote Flats, Coyote Creek, Laurel Lake, or Mono Lake? Is there still too much snow? Or would we be okay with bringing chains as a precautionary?

I've called the Inyo Ranger Station, but all the ranger could tell me that the gates were open. First time on this run so just want to be fully prepared and don't know what to expect. We all have 4x4 and high clearance.

    Thanks in advance!

    Dylan

It was fine two weeks ago when we were there. I'd bring chains, you never know.

I will do better next year, just order a new home today to setup in Bishop. So jazzed to move. So much free camping for our teardrop on BLM sites. Just wow AF right now.

I grew up in Chula Vista, where I live now was a cucumber field that I hunted rabbits in back in the early 60's. Ran my '47 willys all over the hills that are now the 805. Miss the small town and freedoms that come with it. Actually it was not my idea, Robi grew up in small town Ohio, when we drove through Bishop - fell in love as she never understood what I meant by high desert. Now if I can only get her to eat trout..... caught all my big fish on Bishop Creek, Intake II, Owens river and Pleasant Valley reservoir.

Hello TRD-Overland. Regarding local road conditions: Coyote Flats is not passable (snow) from Big Pine, not sure about the Bishop side (I doubt it). Don't know about Coyote Creek. Laurel Lakes road is not passable (snow). Not sure what you are asking about Mono Lake. Where are you trying to get to? 395 is wide open. Went to Sabrina Lake yesterday and found the parking lot half covered in snow. Sabrina is still frozen over. South Lake road is open up to Partcher's Resort; not sure when we'll be able to reach South Lake.
I don't think you will need chains unless another storm rolls through.

@Hobbs I am not trying to get anywhere particular, just trying to camp in the Sierras and get some back country exploring/offroading in. I hope some of the snow clears up in 3 weeks. I will send you a PM to follow up. Appreciate the info! :)

Im going to Mojave desert run on the 24th for a couple of days then headed up toward mammoth too. Good to know that laurel lakes isnt open I have to figure out a plan B now. That was going to be my second leg of the trip. Wondering if any good forest travel will be possible in that area on memorial day weekend?
