did the first oil change today and when I took off the oil drain bolt, I had my oil drain pan underneath but it rushed out with so much force and so quickly that it splattered at least a quart of oil all over the place. What are you guys doing to prevent this? I might try to use a funnel next time and have it ready to catch it into the drain pan. Any other suggestions?

Also, the oil looked pretty good. Upon inspection I didn't really see many shavings in the filter or much in the oil. If you're on the fence about changing it, I personally think you could get away with waiting until 10k or if you're like me and would rather have a little piece of mind, then go ahead and change it.

I just hit 1500 Miles today on mine and am planning a change in the next day or so, that 0-20 is so thin it probably will rush out, taking the Oil Cap off will make it come out even faster but may eliminate any gurgling out which is what I will try.

yeah it was definitely a mess! Took me longer to clean up the oil that splattered then the change itself.

I've sent my oil off to be analyzed. I changed mine around the same time for breakin and again at 5k. There was plenty of wear metals detected. The base structure was still perfect. The additives package on stock oil is still very good after 5,000 a change, probably good up to 7,500 or even 10,000 if you aren't hard on it.

Anything I care about I run Amsoil Signature Series. Tacoma I run Mobil 1 when its on sale. I change it every 5k. I don't trust the 0-20 to go 10k, just me, plus I run my shit pretty hard.

I have a Fumoto F103N ready to install at my first oil change when I hit the 1k mark. I like how how easy they make draining the oil on my other vehicles - no mess.

Mobil 1 0w20 and Toyota filter from Amazon. Mobil has always worked well for all my cars so I have no reason to question otherwise.

I did mine today at 1590, thin oil does splash a little more but I lay paper under my drain pan so was good to go. Oil was a little dirty and there was a bit of glitter in the bottom of the drain pan but no large shavings.

    None (yet)
Did mine today at 1437 miles. Man, I wish I had thought to get a fumoto valve to install. Needless to say, I just ordered one and it'll go in on the next change at 5k. Went with F-103N since I have the skid plate and the nipple won't be an issue at all.

Oil was a little dark (not surprising for a new engine) but there were only a few tiny sparkles in the oil, no shavings or anything of concern.

I use an oil drain pan like this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0160B4G0M

Something about the shape and the grate seems to do a decent job at preventing splashback.
