I got burned by the 1DmkIII fiasco. I'm not sure I'll ever get another 1st gen 1D anything.

Yeah it's kinda frustrating. Both my latest 1D series started soft focusing after 10,000 clicks or so.

Sorry, I misread your initial post. I missed that it was series 2 you had mentioned. I was thinking the original 1DX body which you can shop around and find for around $4k.

The main point of my response was that the equipment insurance that one gets included in the membership for PPA was for $15k, but you can always get higher coverage for extra cost. I mean if you are going to get at least $15k in insurance coverage for your gear, you may as well get the membership and the things that come with it.

Downloaded an app called ProCam that allows for exposure bracketing, I was experimenting with the sunrise.

Took a friend hiking to teach her how to do the "silky" water effect. We didn't have a ND filter so we worked with what we had on that sunny Wednesday on our day off. I think she got it down for the most part.

Hey everyone, it's been a while since I've posted in here but I'm looking into some new cameras so figured I'd post about it here.

I've been wanting to get a small camera that I can keep with me in my backpack or don't mind carrying around. Initially I was going to go with the Sony a6000 but I think I'm going to go with a nice point and shoot. I think I've narrowed it down to these three (leaning towards sony):
    • Sony RX100 M III
    • Canon G7x M II
    • Panasonic ZS100 (specs look the same as the lx10 with a great zoom range, unless I'm missing something).
What do you all think about these?

And since this is a photo thread, took this about a week or two ago. This guy was jammin on his electric cello in downtown DC.

The RX100 is a great camera, almost too tiny ha.

I would also recommend checking out the Fuji X100T or X70 if you like the 35mm or 28mm focal lengths.

Micro 4/3 cameras have ridiculously compact lenses and great features.

Hmmm I was't considering the X70 since its a fixed focal length but it looks like its low light quality is really good, which might be more useful than the amount of zoom the RX100 has...more thinking haha

Early spring in the white mountains of New Hampshire.
It was beautiful and and about 70 degrees at the bottom but with 1,000 feet of elevation gain to get up to lonesome lake we started seeing some snow on the ground and looking across to the Franconia ridge it still looked like winter.

So I finally decided on a camera...the Fujifilm XT20. I went to a fujifilm demo at a local camera shop and was sold once I picked it up. My DSLR is a Nikon D3000 so rather than paying $1k for the X100f or 5-700 for a point and shoot I went with a mirrorless that could replace my D3000. Safe to say I'm really excited, just have to wait until they come in stock.

Also, went to cars and coffee this morning. Here's a sample of what I got, a bunch more on my flickr if you want to check them out.

Sorry for reposting this, but I forgot one of the unusual elements of that first photo. Some other guy won prize money and recognition for a photo very similar to mine, but with remarkably different processing. His photo here:
