Here is my Rottie mix. He loves traveling in the bed of my truck. I have a SnugTop cap to keep him safe. On longer trips we put him in the back seat of the double cab.

How's he do in the summer? Does it get warm in the bed while driving when its 90+ outside? I have the same idea as you, however I'm concerned with how my girls will do during this summer heat. Thanks

Can't tell you yet. Just got the topper a few months ago. Fortunately, I live in San Diego and temperatures stay in the 70s-80s most of the summer so should be okay.

I have a 1 foot wide lint roller. It quite literally looks like a paint roller. It works excellent on couches, interior seats, almost anything. They're like $20 at Petsmart, refill packs are around $12 in my area.

My experience is that it can get pretty warm in the bed. The length of the trip is of course a factor. And the size of the dog. Leave all the windows or vents open in hot weather.

Precisely why I have the seat cover and crate. My dog loves the water and I let him cool in the lakes and streams. I don't care if he's wet and muddy. The only issue I can't address with my 4Runner is the skunk scenario. If your dog gets really stinky, the truck bed comes in handy.

He used to ride up front when he was a pup...

...but now he wears a Julius k-9 vest with 2 rated locking carabiners and a lead that clips into the rear center seatbelt. Then I just got an Amazon basics seat hammock cover for the back seat.

It's amazing how quick dogs morph from puppies to adults. I use locking carabiners with my dog leash and harness. Corgis are herding dogs and mine has high drive. He spun out of two clips previously so I had to get better hardware to prevent that. Spinning out of a harness or clip near a busy intersection is simply not an option.

I swore to myself when I got my new Tacoma I wouldn't let me dog near it.

    That didn't work out.

Our 10 year old English Mastiff. We built a canopy for her to ride in the truck. She takes up the whole bed.
