OK, yes, quite familiar, fun little trail. I think you would have been fine if you took your time with a spotter on the rockier parts, doesn't look like you have aftermarket skids, but it sounds like with the situation you were in you made a good decision, which is usually the safer option. Glad you got to get out there and check it out though!

    Killer road trip!
I did appreciate your camping photo from back when you were a young lad.
That's a great memory and thanks for sharing.
Very cool that you stopped to wet a line... I like that last trout with the linear red spots.
    Very cool .....
You are a blessed man to have a great partner.
My favorite picture might have been the rabbit,
But then you gave us your mascot, what a cool dog.
Looking forward to your next trip!

Good luck and have fun on your month long trip. Heading to Santa Fe I see. My hometown! Hope you enjoy it.

On my 12 day trip our cooler was a little lacking. We also have a Coleman extreme, a few years old. We had to add ice probably 4 times in addition to the initial packing. Food sitting in cold water is a bit off putting.

I may check out one of the nicer coolers someday.

    Have fun!

how much did you use 4x4? I'm still learning my limits with 2wd. I have regrets but it's all I have to work with for now

Quite a bit. There were lots of places / spots I would not even try without 4x4, it's just asking for trouble imo (sorry to say).

I'm about to ask a stupid question so bear with me. How was your MPG with your set up and during this trip?

What an awesome trip. Great documenting it, lovely pictures too. I hope to do something similar one day (got to convince the wife :D ). I do have a question about your shell roof top tent combo. What is the weight rating on your shell? Is it one of those reinforced ones that can take up to 500lbs? I see a lot of people putting these tents on shells and most of them don't look like the reinforced models. Any issues with the shell carrying all that weight when you guys are sleeping in it?

    Thanks,
    Alvin

Thanks. The shell is a standard Leer. I spoke at length with the shop and was originally trying to purchase the commercial model but they actually talked me out of it. They told me the standard was more than strong enough and that if anything were to go wrong they would warranty the shell, they've been in business for 20-30 years or something like that.

I've not had any issues at all thus far. I did a bunch of research and everyone else that had a standard had no complaints either. Also, the weight while sleeping is not the concern it's the cornering, braking, etc. You can read up on the dynamic vs. static load argument online if you'd like.
