That is a good plan Fuergrissa. Practice more and more. Also get someone's help in case of any doubts.

I don't think a welding course is really necessary for someone only looking to build armor and stuff for their truck. Hood time is the best thing you can possibly have. I learned all the techniques watching YouTube videos and feel confident in my skills for what I want to use them for. Would I ever weld a 2000PSI pressure vessel? Absolutely not. Would my welds hold up? Probably, but I know my limits and would never even consider such a thing. My rear bumper tows a 4000lb boat and has zero signs of failure, deformation or any of the likes (but I don't have an X-ray to confirm, lol). Knowing the proper settings for the thickness you weld, cleaning your work surface, proper technique, and KNOWING YOUR LIMITS are your best bet.

    im ready meme.jpg

Past few days Ive been working on getting every last item i'll need for my attempt at sliders.

Im all set, been practicing few welds especially the lap joint for welding the sliders to the frame. Making sure I'm getting enough penetration. Benders all set up and bolted down. Just picked up some 1.75 with 120 wall DOM..... This will be interesting. I plan on testing my welds by lifting the truck by the sliders with a jack. I choose a simple design. There so much stuff I wana say but its just easier to start a build thread.

Didnt really see places that would rent tube benders. If there was renting available, I would have to allocated time for rent which = rushing which = bad work or more money for more time. After a ton of research I purchased the model 3 by jd^2

Was just a suggestion. I know virtually nothing, only what i learn on you tube and hack from other fellow taco owners. Never afraid to get my hands dirty though and jump right in. New to this stuff myself. Never upgraded my second gen, but plan on doing up this 3rd gen as mush as possible.

Awesome! That's exactly what I'm doin. My original idea was just a simple bumper, just a bumper... then it avalanched into sliders bumpers, skid plates and a lift haha.

The coolest aspect about this is 6 months ago, I knew nothing about metal working/welding Now, I know a lot more and there's still so much to learn.

Understood. I took my truck to the desert, never did it with the old one. Now I need a 3 inch lift and to turn it into a small armored motor home.

Yep, My company is huge on safety and I've seen my fair share of pictures of guys with chop saw blades enlodged in a cheek bone. Glasses and face shield for this guy !

Yeah I've seen some photos, safety is a first for sure. So far I've only had one 4 1/2 cutting disk blow up.

I do have to say building the rolling work bench was the best idea. being able to work outside and keep the mess outside is easy for clean up.

It's been a while since I've updated this

    Blinker relocation mod
    IMG_0004.jpg

I used a trail gear mount bracket as my base to build off
    IMG_0028.jpg

Built a little shelf for the tubing to sit on.

Used the shit out of the bender, was unable to use my notcher because of the funny angles.

    Painted body,radiator and grill

    IMG_0112.jpg
Just adding some plating and it goes to paint!
