I have had a set of Michelin LTX A/T2 tires on the truck from 95k to 167k miles and i have loved them.

The manual calls for a rotation from front to back on each side but not to change from side to side when doing a rotation unless i am reading it wrong.

Anyway....my driver side inner is looking worn.....more so than the outer....and more so than the passenger side. Looks like it might be time for an alignment?

What is the rule of thumb here on rotations. Can i go from right rear to left front and visa versa? The tires i have are rated for 60 - 70k so i am right there but.......the wear bars are a ways away yet and these tires still have some good tread on them. Id like to keep using them for a while longer.

I managed to break a passenger side lug smooth off on this round of rotations. I had the shop do a 1 or 2 rotations but i generally do it myself using nothing more than a standard breaker bar and socket. Its quicker and less dicking around then bringing it in. I dont trust those idiots. They put the lugs on so tight last time i could barely get them off with my breaker bard. (which probably lead to the situation i am in now).

Anyway.......i am figuring on 115 - 180 for the alignment and probably the same for the lug replacmement. Ill probably let the lug go until i need to do the brakes again and my pads look fantastic now.

WHat is the rule of thumb on the cross side tire rotation? My tires dont look directional

First off, get that lug fixed.

All the lugs basically rely on one another, if one fails they others will follow suit.

And yes, you've got a camber problem, which is why the tire has worn the way it has.

I have rotated my tires "back tires straight forward and cross the fronts to the back" for the last 15 years and I have never had a cupping or weird wear pattern.

Some will say rotate front to back only and I find that when that happens you tend to get cupping issues. My dad has an 2012 f250 with 35" dick cepek fun country tires and he did a front to rear straight forward rotation for the first rotation and noticed some cupping. We did a cross tire rotation "as mentioned above" and the cupping went away.

interesting........next rotation may be cross for me. I have no cupping issues yet but clearly a camber problem as pointed out by hondah.

I wont be able to replace the lug myself......and it seems a waste to go in that far without replacing brake pads and that crap as well. Ill make some calls this week. I only want to use toyota parts so finding a shop to do the work might be tricky. They hate that.

Get the lug fixed. Safety issue IMO.

Then rotate. I've always done above, rear to front and cross fronts to back.

Brakes and a lug replacement is pretty easy. If you want to save a dime you can do that yourself and then take to a shop for alignment.

the problem i have always had with brakes is getting those stupid pins out. They are always welded in by rust. I have beaten the hell out of them and they have not budged. After bringing them in, the shop has always had to get after them with an impact hammer to get them out. One shop even had to cut them before hammering them out. They say it is common. I hate the way the brakes are in these trucks. I have changed the brakes in many midsized and large trucks and never had this nonsense. I guess maybe that goes with living in a cold snowy climate.

I figure its 1 more set of brakes and tires before im well over 200K and my frame cracks in half at this point. I would love to do the brakes myself but i dont have a second car if things go south and i need to get to work. I wouldnt be concerned about replacing the lug. Thats easy.....but you need to get the caliper off to get the rotor out.

I should have pulled it apart the last time the dealership did this work and applied some. I didnt. It is now screwed again. You would think they would do that. OF course ....maybe not. More money for them in service labor.

i was strictly going by my manual. I guess i should have asked first. Time to start crossing rears to the front. It should make my existing tires last a bit longer before i have to get a new set. Thanks all.
