My stereo has the weather and traffic buttons but when I push either of them I just get a message that says "hd signal not available for this service, please try again later". It's been like that since I got the truck a year ago. I bought it in Oregon and live in Reno nv so maybe that's the issue? It's a non nav, non jbl unit.

In order for that to work, you need the XM subscription. It's a useless feature anyways, so don't sweat it.

I do have the xm subscription. I probably would never use those features anyways, but it kinda bugs me that I have buttons that "should" work.

Well it varies on the level of XM that you have. You need the one with all the bells and whistles which is too expensive.

Yeah, same here. I don't need any of that extra fancy crap. My truck came with the loaded version as a trial (that's how I know the weather and traffic are shit services) and now I just have the cheap package.

I could very well be wrong, but I don't think XM has anything to do with this feature. It's HD signal which is FM.

I have Entune with Nav but non-JBL and these features only work when I am in a densely populated area (most likely more stations around with HD signal) but they do not work when I am home in the boondocks.

    EDIT:

I don't pay for XM at all

I don't think that is right. I have a 2015, I don't pay for XM and get weather and traffic. I think you have to be in a big city. Once i'm about an hr drive from a big city it stops working.

I believe it depends on HD radio signals in your surrounding area. The more you're near, the better it works.
It bugs me that it does not function where I live, but I get the same info from my phone.

Whomp whomp. Sorry OP for the shit information. I was under the impression it was XM dependent. At least I bumped the thread enough for you to get the right answer ;) FWIW it's still a useless service.

Yup, 100% agreed. That's why I installed a GTX mirror so I could at least get the outdoor temperature. The weather map feature is awesome, but it serves no purpose when you camping in a remote area and want to see the projection for the incoming storm.
