Yall have any idea what this is in the glove compartment?

 

It's the little shock that keeps the door from just falling down.

This makes me wish I had a second gen lol

 

Took it out, door still hanging there.

Mine wasn't connected to anything, thinking it may be the source to one or more of my rattles

 

It's the dampener for the glove box. It keeps it from falling harshly. It attaches on the right side of the glove box, to the glove box and the dash panel there. If it was loose, that'd cause rattles.

 

I just took it off for now.

I figured out how it attaches at the 2 points....but doesn't seem to really do anything

My drive to work in the AM will be the tell all I suppose

 

That may help with reinstall if you decide to do so. It would take you like 20 seconds to do.

 

Thanks man. I reinstalled it, and realized what absolute noting it does.....so I just took it off for now.

I want to know if that's what the noise was or not.

 

Bet it was, if it was loose. I think (and maybe someone knows better) that the only instance where it'd be helpful is if the glove box was particularly heavy- it'd keep it from detaching and spilling everything on the floorboard.

 

Roger that. Hoping it was the cause.
