Checked my trans fluid myself. There's a good write up how to do it,I don't trust the dealers. Mine took 3 oz.

Can you share this write up? Did you replace the bolt gaskets?

Look in the technical chat. I didn't change the plug gasket rings, no leaks.

I would contact Corporate and open a case. I did that and the dealer did a solid 180 and did everything that they should have done on my initial visit. Plus they provided a free rental.

Are the PDFs in the OP still valid? I'm heading into the dealer shortly for 15k service and wanted to bring a copy of this...

My 2016 Tacoma does the same. Brought my truck with the trailer and SXS loaded and made them do a road test with me to show them. They still managed to say it was "normal" for the truck. What a joke.

The TSB, both the original and the revision, should completely resolve this issue.

Yes they are. Grab the non-scanned version if you're printing it out, much cleaner copy.

If/when a rev2 becomes available, there's going to be a frenzy of posts about it. I doubt anyone would miss it. :)

Nope it doesn't. Even without towing, mine does this on the highway unless there is a tail wind.

@treimche did you ever try the reset in TechStream? Just curious if you had the same or different results from what I had found.

There's always a chance that I was experiencing a placebo effect, no one else has chimed in.

*unlikely though, 30 years of butt dyno backing up my claim.

Hmm.. this resolved my problem 8,000 miles ago and it hasn't returned. Although mine didn't do it as bad as your post indicated. Mine would upshift eventually prior to the TSB if I was going downhill. I assume you've had fluid levels checked? That's a bummer man. Cruise has really helped me limit gear hunting in the mountains since it's been fixed. Cruise definitely holds gears longer - sometimes too long I guess

I haven't had the time to mess with it yet, work has been super busy.

Fluid was checked with very few miles on the truck and was half quart low. REV-1 was installed before I ever took delivery. It's ALWAYS windy here, so the lack of low end power of this thing makes it constantly rev out to find power. Toyota should really retune 5th/6th gears.

What's up TW. I was feeling the transmission issue on my 17 OR. On long drives it would down shift and gets stuck for too long on slight incline or constantly shifting from 4th to 5th.

Took it in to my local dealership with a print out. They said the 17 model already had the update. I didn't believe them so I insisted they check out my truck. The advisor mentioned supposedly they don't get paid for the job. Anyways they kept her over night to have the transmission cooled before fluid level inspection.

Picked up the truck today. No updates were made on the programming but they found fluid levels were low by 0.5 quarts.
Shifting from park to drive or reverse is now a lot smoother. City drive feel effortless too. The ultimate test would be another road trip. Will check back on results after.

Check the level yourself. I don't believe the techstream can check levels it can only tell you trans temp
