I also have one of these, but not the G2, the original design. After 7 years, the weatherstripping has become hard and it is not quite waterproof anymore, but very good construction. It comes off pretty easily and locks in front and back. At least I know no one can steal my tailgate.:D

Wise choice. I still have the solid fold on but it looks like crap with all of the scratches and paint chips. I have tried selling it cheap on Craig'slist but nobody wants it and I hate to just toss a $700 purchase in the trash.

Well here it is 4/26/17 2.0 installed 11/16 on a new 2017 Taco, same story different year. Leaks, leaks, leaks front and sides in a lite rain storm, don't believe it is the hinge/panel frame area, yet.

I see pin hole light coming from either side of the center portion of each fold, toothpick size. Toy dealer along with Extang dealer say "yup it leaking"! Thank you captain O!

Dealers (both) may as well have broken phones, no returned calls.

Called Extang, sent 50 photos, end of same day, they are sending new side, front and back seals to replace.

Also on the front of the Taco bed there is a factory installed rail, problem is it is about an 1/8th of and inch higher then the bed rails...will have to contend with that later.

    Story to be continued!

Wow, seven years ago since I last posted on this topic. Soon after my last post I unloaded the Solid fold cheap on Craigslist. I then bought an Undercover SE which is still on my truck and I have been super satisfied with it. It doesn't sound like QC has gotten any better with Extang and the Solid Fold.

I am no expert with tonneau's, the pup's I've had had caps and the rails were plain flat steel, foam pad between. I only asked for a trifold hard cover tonneau at the dealers. Where we live we get smuch for winter weather, somewhere between snow and rain. 33" of heavy wet snow in last fall! Also recently my son's Tundra was attacked by a spring bear out of hibernation. Forgot to take the garbage to the dumpster and now he has a large paw print though his Extang soft cover! So...

Unfortunately the mass production isn't like Henry Ford days and I do not know if Extang has the capabilities of computer monitoring for QC'ing every step.

I can say the young lady that answered the phone was very polite and very knowledgeable! Asked the right questions and seem to say the right things. Once I sent photos she almost immediately called me. She was sending the information to the engineering department. Before the end of the day she called to let me know what they were going to do. Very good and fast response!

From the threads I have read, the early trifold's used foam to quell the water. Sponges don't really don't work too well. Extang defiantly made progress.

Given the lack of response from the dealer at this point knowing what I know now I don't believe a replacement tonneau would be a good idea. At least with the one I have I know what and about where the issues are. Just a lot of money to spend to fix problems.

I'll replace the seals all around, instead of making the cut areas pretty I am going to see if overlapping a bit helps, If that doesn't totally fix it I may try some cap seal over the decorative bed rail, only a mm will make a good leak! On the bed front piece I am definitely adding thin foam as a spacer on either side. Too bad the front rail isn't even with the sides...would not even work with a cap.

    Story to be continued!

The issue with my solid fold was that the seals were poorly cut. Just take you time with your new seals and use something square for cuts and they will be fine. I think the seals are too thick to overlap. Another issue I had was that the seals for the bed front rail and tailgate are different sizes. They put the front one on the tailgate so there was a huge gap in the front one with the tailgate on it. Have you talked to the dealer you bought it from? Maybe let him fix it or refund your money.

    Exactly!
Yes went to dealer that installed, went to dealer that sold to Toyota and amazingly both said said the Tonneau leaks! WOW! Now on 2nd day waiting for Taco dealer to get back to me. I will be calling tomorrow to see what they say.

In the mean time I contacted Extang, sent them photos and they are sending all seals to replace!

And as I say...Story to be continued!

For the end of the story. Too many issues with water leaks.
The Toyota dealer agreed to swap plus $100 for a BAK G2. NICE! Metal rail over the edge, ran a bead of black RTV/silicone under prior to installation. Squashed rail down and tightened.
Also there were small gaps in the 2 front corners, dabbed a bit there and smoothed.

This past Friday we (wife and two dogs) camped at Bull Run in VA, rain rain rain! Only leak found was on/near front passenger latch, will address at some point. Not worried about the tailgate, yet.BAK G2.jpg BAK G2 drain tubes and mat.jpg BAK G2 rail sealed.jpg BAK G2 frt corner sealed.jpg First fire Bull Run VA.jpg

Low point at hinge to bed is approx. 16.5", enough for small totes and 5 gallon buckets only bare items were the table canopy and 4 canvas chairs.

    All is good
