I searched TW for ideas on a fishing rod holder and found several great mods for holders that used the bed rails. I have a undercover tonneau cover and didn't want to have to take it off everytime I went fishing. I decided to make one were I could use the tow hitch. I found a drop hitch on craigslist for $25 and had a friend cut it down from 12" to 6". I bought some bolts at Tractor Supply and the fishing rod holders at Academy. I had a board laying around and cut it to size. I think it came out pretty good and the rod don't move around when I'm flying up and down the freeway.

That pretty good. Excellent idea. I have one of those magnetic ones that stick on the hood and roof but it was like $80 and carrys only 2 spinning or bait cast reels. Do you hook a bungie cord around the reels to keep them from bouncing out?

    Looks good.

Now put some big-ass trolling rods in there, clamp an STI to the end of the line, then go trolling on the freeway and catch yourself a Porsche, Ferrari, or a Lambo if your real lucky.

Imagine that, "Look dear, at what I caught on the way home from work! Can I keep it?"

I have always seen them on the front bumper.
The rod holder is different on the back of the truck and I like it.

I would have liked to have installed a front hitch, but I just lifted my truck and didn't feel like dropping more money, espically since I need tires. So far this has worked out well.

Great clean look. I'm looking to do something similiar. What type of receiver hitch did you connect the rod rack to? That's what I'm having trouble finding online.

That's pretty sweet. I'd have trouble towing my boat without the hitch though!

I found one of these on craigslist and I bolted the board to it.

you might get hassled with the tag on the back of the truck. this was the first year in 10 where i had my tag and had to produce the paper you get with the tag.
