So after tons of research I finally pulled the trigger on lifting my 05 TRD tacoma.

    Here's what I did
    • BFG all terrains 265/75/16
    • Bilstein 5100 adjustable set at 1.75"
    • Stock coils
    • 2" tuff country add a leaf on Toyota recall leaf spring pack.

    Before lift measurements:

    • Front
      • ground to fender across center wheel 34.5"
      • Center hub to fender 19.5"
    • Rear
      • ground to fender across center of hub 36.25
      • Center hub to fender 21.25

    Before lift 1.4" rake
    Estimated 1.65" rake with lift

    After lift measurements:

Front left mid wheel to fender 25"
Front right mid wheel to fender 25" (5.5 inches of lift???)
Front left ground to fender 40" (5.5 inches of lift)
Front right ground to fender 40"
Back left mid wheel to fender 24"
Back right mid wheel to fender 24" (2.75 inch lift)
Back left ground to fender 39"
Back right ground to fender 39" (2.75 inch lift)

So now I have 1 inch of reverse rake or bro lean which I was sure I would avoid !!!

Also, how did I get so much lift in the front out of bilsteins set at 1.75?

Are these normal results for this setup? It seems like way more than I expected and I'm not sure how I went from 1.4" of forward rake to 1.0" of backward rake? What should I do ? I already invested a lot in this and can't really afford to re do it. It's not that bad but I really didn't want any "bro lean"!!

    Here are some pics:

    Before (sorry for bad pics)

    After

Did you assemble the Bilstein's yourself? Maybe you put the bottom spring perch on upside down?

I actually had them installed by a friend's fabrication shop - is that a common mistake? Would that turn 1.75" bilstein into about 5" lift?

Not sure if I'd say common, but could be possible. Post a picture of the front assembly.

That's what it sounds like to me. Should be closer to 2 inches front.

The bottom of the coil, it sits on a cup. The cup should be up inside the coil not bulging down under it.

The front shock/spring. Particularly the bottom of the spring, but a good picture of the whole assembly works too.

Ive read about 3 people on this site in the last week who have experienced this. Very common.

Is that paint rubbed off the spring? That UCA may be hitting the coil when the suspension droops

Well shit! Thanks guys, I'm glad I didn't keep driving it like this.

Obviously I will take it back and get it corrected. I've only driven it about 10 miles, is there any risk of having damaged the coils with this improper setup?

I wouldn't think so with only 10 miles. The rubbing won't happen when you fix the seats. At least its a common fix.

@kayman210 - Get them flipped back over as soon as you can, and don't drive any more than you have to. The cup being over that clip keeps it where it belongs. Nothing has probably been hurt yet.

I'm not real sure. If it's just the paint/scratches I wouldn't worry. If there are pieces of metal missing, I may be concerned. But like the last guy said, probably ok with just 10 miles.

Avoid any big dips or bumps if you can until fixed.
