This topic has surfaced in another thread, but is buried so I'm surfacing for input. I have heard that some vibes on Tundras have been resolved with the installation of a damper on the exhaust resonator. First I've actually thought about tinkering with the exhaust to impact the engine vibes on the steering wheel and floorboard but on prior vehicles I've seen vibes reduce when replacing with an aftermarket muffler.

Any thoughts on whether this is a worthwhile thing to consider? Anyone had any experiences? For those who have installed after market exhaust, did you experience any change in vibes?

NOTE: Most people do the exhaust for increase HP, torque, and sound vs. dampening to quiet it so I know this is a rare topic...

I installed a borla exhaust which has similar dimensions to stock. Vibes are still bad. Others have installed other exhausts which are dimensionally difference and claim a significant reduction.

If you go the route of dampers it can be a little complicated as their placement is important. It could take a lot of trial and error with both masses and location. Others have said they might try a flex section since it is currently a rigid connection straight to the engine block, but I haven't seen any results yet.

Thanks! Any way you could point me to any of the dimensionally different exhausts you're referring to? Fine with just replacing the exhaust vs. putting in a damper if I can find something that may help. This is really the one remaining issue that is annoying to me w/ the truck. Get the vibes down a bit and I'll stop whining :)

I don't remember the model numbers off the top of my head but the magnaflow one was rumored to "reduce it" and I believe one member said the flowmaster dual exhaust setup eliminated his friend's completely.

Cool. Thing is I'm not looking to make it louder in any way... but to be honest if I needed to beef it up slightly in sound to keep the steering wheel a little stiffer, I'd be down. I still wonder about a loose bolt or something somewhere along the line given some of the QC issues and the reality that my vibes in the steering have gotten progressively worse. My BIG problems have been resolved for now, but this one thing is just annoying and I believe solvable.
