Toyota Tacoma not on most reliable list?

Not sure I've ever heard a Corolla, Civic, Camry, etc., etc. owner say..."damn, I wish my car was more truck-like".

So why do people want their trucks to be more car-like?

I mean, I understand a few creature comforts here and there. But shit, I wanted a truck and some of the truck-like things that go along with owning one. Is it going to ride like a Caddy? No. Is it going to be as quite as a Lexus? No. Is it going to handle like a Porsche? No.

It's a truck. Period. If I wanted something other than a truck I would've bought a Ridgeline or a Highlander and a trailer.

Sometimes I wonder if people's expectations get in the way of enjoying things.

While l agree with your Post, what does any of that have to do with Reliability?

 

Because somewhere along the way in this cluster fuck, someone mentioned the Taco being low on every list in existence on the internet, including CR which praises the Ridgeline in the midsize "truck" market. Everything went downhill from there...

 

Only because all the guys that off-road mess something up and then go into the dealership and say it just happened magically and they've never touched the dirt... That gets reported back and there you have it... Not on the reliable list

 

It doesn't. But when I read contemporary reviews they seem to always bring up how "car-like" a truck is or isn't. Or better yet....whether a TRUCK is too truck-like. It just makes the review seem a little less worthy. Probably a "car" person doing the review. I've listened to CR bash the Taco for 20+ years for how loud it is, how clusmy it is, how noisy it is, it's terrible fuel economy. I've owned 3 of them. Never felt that way about any of them.

When I see a thread that says "my Taco rides too stiff", "my Taco handles poorly", "my Taco isn't fast enough", "my Taco is only getting 20 mpg", "how do I make the ride smoother", etc., etc I don't even read them. It's simple...you bought the wrong vehicle.

You had a Civic or Altima or maybe BMW 3 series and you're standing out in your driveway one fine Saturday morning, sipping your coffee and you look across the street at your neighbor who just got back from Lowe's in his Taco with lumber to finish his deck.Then you look down the street at another neighbor who's washing and waxing his Colorado and you look back at your vanilla sedan and say..."I'm buyin' a truck". Then complain about all the ways it drives and feels like a truck from the moment you get it home.

That's what I meant about expectations and reality not always gelling. This was not specific to the Taco....any gen. Just trucks in general.

@shakerhood Sorry for the rant. It's got nothing to do with "predicted reliability". Just venting.

I think we can all agree that the ridgeline does a much better job transporting picnic baskets

 

For me it's not even about the RL. It's the loading of a picnic basket.

all this ridgeline talk had me curious if a place like this exists for them and what they talk about... lol sure enough it does exist!

One of the threads is what do you love about your ridgeline, the common response I see is from owners saying how rare they are and they never see any other ridgelines on the road. Uh maybe that should be their hint that they're hideous and most truck drivers with common sense can see that

 

The Tundra is on there. So I'm sure it's not about money.

 

The mini van has always been known as the "soccer moms" vehicle.

The RL is the "soccer dads". Nothing wrong with that, BTW

 

If you look at the ranking by JD powers, you'll see it's subject to change at any given time on a whim later.



And our score is not bad

The critics rating we all know is subject to bias, and the interior rating we know that is subject to bias, the performance rating is too, just look at the difference between the two twins, they share the same drive-train and components and yet have different scores, so that's pfff!

About the only thing that is less subject to bias is the safety rating.

Which begs the question, in a real world crash, would you rather be in Ridgeline or Taco??
IDK about you, but after what I've seen our members walk away unharmed from, I's rather a Taco.

But that's just me.

And how's the Colorado more reliable than the Canyon when it the same truck???
