Yeah for the first few weeks you have him you need to take him outside regularly (even a few times through the night) to get him to associate going outside is where he needs to go to the bathroom. You can also clean up any of his pee accidents with a rag and stake that rag outside - take him to that spot everytime so he figures out that's where he needs to go.

Also good advice - crate training is invaluable so the dog learns to like spending time in there - helpful in a situation where you need to keep him locked up for whatever reason

Beautiful dog although I wish you had rescued a dog in need of a good home.

My daughter's bully is a lot of work. I don't know if it is just hers or if they are all like him.

As soon as he wakes take him out and carry him to spot and say go potty or whatever command you want. Then when he does give him positive reinforcement like good boy or a treat. Now when he slips and pees inside then say no with a firm voice and then take him outside and say the command. If he does then positive reinforcement. If he doesn't then that is okay. He will learn quick. All my dogs I have ever had have been off leash trained and potty trained to go outside. Also make sure you learn his habits and do not leave an open bowl of food. Huge mistake.

that was originally the plan, but in my area, the humane society has a strange disease running around I've heard. My girl found the dog on Instagram, just happened to fall into our lap. Honestly couldn't say no lol

Cute pup! Seriously read up on crate training. Game over if the crate ever get associated with something negative. You don't want to go there. I did the feed in there thing. Gave him snacks in there. Let him come out when he wished. Now? I just say " kennel" and he races in there. You don't want it to feel like a punishment.

And take dog outside every time you feed him, he drinks water, wakes up...etc. tell him. ' go to the bathroom". He'll get it. I just taught my adopted dog this in four days. If he doesn't have to go, he fakes it. Kinda funny.

It's funny that this thread was just brought back to life.

My dog decided last night to poop twice in his crate last night. Which he has never done before. Honestly hasn't had an accident in a while. I was shocked.

Unfortunately I have to start all over again with his crate I guess. Not sure what happened last night. I let him out a bunch of times before he went to bed.

    Otherwise he's been good.

I believe it's very unusual for them to go to the bathroom in their crate, unless it's very big.

I think there are many comments about the crate. I also suggest a crate. My dog is 2.5 yrs old now, but he was my first dog. By the time he was 6 months old he was potty trained. Don't know if that is standard time or not, but I thought it was pretty good considering it was my first dog. I used a crate and set my alarm every 2.5 hours to take him out. If you don't carry him out, then he may pee before getting outside. You should have a system where you take him out every 3.5 hrs, then 4 hrs, etc as he gets older. Add like .5 hrs to his wait time every week. Also ween him off the carrying or he will get bad habits.

Also, you have a bulldog. If you see any sign of guarding, you have to address that right away before he gets too big and you no longer as willing to address it. I have a French Bulldog, so if you have bulldog questions please feel free to ask. They require extra maintenance due to their folds and breathing issues. Don't even get me started on diets. Anyways, good luck man. He will change your life for the better.

is he feeling fine? Only time my dog has pooped in the crate is when he's sick.

Is the crate too big for him? It needs to be fairly cramped.

We opened it up since he's almost 6 months old and he has been really good. Well that all went to shit over the past couple days .

Apparently the gf took him outside , he did his business, then came inside, and pooped on the living room floor.

It's almost as if he's acting out. I'm not sure what's going on. I'll find out more when I get home later on today.

Cute pup. its been said already, but I will do it again. crate training is huge. he will love to be in his crate. it will be his place to go to chill out if he wants to, as he gets older. never remove the crate. take the door off once he gets 100% potty trained. it will be his little place to call his own. And positive reinforcement. every time he has a positive behavior, treat him. do not yell if he makes a mistake. just take him out and say the magic word. every time he does a good deed outside, pee, or poo, say the magic word. pick a word, and keep using it forever. he will learn to associate pee / poo with that word. we use to say "hurry up" to ours  it worked. negative attention is just the same to them as positive attention. do not give any negative attention for unwanted behaviors, other than taking him out and saying the magic word.
