I am thinking hard about trading my 16 SR dcsb Tacoma for a 14 or 16 4Runner. Is there anything I should know before making the jump?
I assume that the 4.0 and 5 speed trans are much better than the Tacoma.
Does the back seat have more leg room than the Tacoma?
Is the gas mileage comparable? I am getting 22-23 pretty much every tank. I had a 96 4Runner way back, with 31s, a winch and bumper. I got 16mpg with that thing.
    Any info is appreciated.

I'm getting 17.5 or so on my 2013.

I'd expect high teens. Low 20s highway.

Much more legroom in back (I'm 6'7" and can have a rear passenger with my seat back all the way). Something I couldn't do in my DCSB.

Father in law has later model 4 runner and it definitely has more room in the backseat. It's got solid get up and go but I can't make a straight comparison there because my taco is a manual. Other than that the driving characteristics are very similar with regards to handling and road manners. I still prefer the truck but I don't think you'd be unhappy with the 4runner

Super comfy and roomy. Cruise control is kinda freaky useless you have eco mode on, not a big deal. I average around 19-20 mpg usually. Sometimes higher.

Thanks for the input. I am going to put hands on one soon. I like my Tacoma, but I don't love it. Hoping I love the 4Runner.

I just traded my taco for a 17 runner pro. Absolutely love it, no regrets here!

    I love my 2nd gen but I'd trade it for a runner....:anonymous:

Edit: Specifically for a Trail Edition or T4R Pro with the leather seats.

I traded my 17 TRD OR DCSB auto trans for an SR5 premium 4R a few days ago. I am very happy. I did like the truck, and I think a manual trans option would be better, but there were several things that I just could not get used to, nor did I want to.

The immediate things I notice that I am happy with are:

No wind noise and much less road noise.

I love the 4.0 5spd auto combo. It drives smooth and wonderful and does not hunt for gears.

The front seats are bigger and I have more leg room. The rear passengers have a TON of room compared to the truck. The rear cargo area is good sized.

I have heated power seats (I like the softex material).

The navigation and stereo are the same, but the buttons and volume knobs are not on the screen so I don't change the channel by accident any more.

The hood has struts and not a prop rod.

Overall the vehicle fits my family better wife 2 kids and a dog. I don't want to sound too down on the truck, I think the 3rd gen tacomas look cool and have some great features, I just think the 4Runner is an overall better vehicle.

    Go check one out!

I drove 2, 2014s today. One was a SR5 Trail with 60k on it. WAY more room. There was a squeak in the front end on some bumps, and it was in need of tires in a bad way. They were asking $32k and wouldn't budge.
I passed and drove a SR5 with the 3rd row at another dealer. Very clean truck, 55k on it. The dealer was ready to give me original msrp for my Tacoma, but the money wasn't right for me. I did not want to go 6 yrs on an already 3yr old truck.
Called about a '16 SR5 with 3rd row, aftermarket roof rack and 14k miles. Very optimistic after calling. Dealer is 200 miles away, so hope to get the deal done and have them deliver the 4Runner Monday. We'll see how tomorrow goes.
I think I will be much happier with the extra room.

No test drive? Or is there a grace period just in case you find something with it?

Going to hammer all that out tomorrow. They were closing when I found it and called.
