I can't imagine next year will be any better with the EPA regulations changing again. Manufacturers are going to have to go hybrid or make selectable sport modes to keep consumers happy while meeting emissions standards. 100% sure hybrid will become popular, even the F150 is getting one.

I've never ridden in the competitors trucks but I love my truck. Even with the howling diff and a random whistling. Once the mods start, I'm sure I'll love it even more.

I have to agree 100%. I have owned my 3d Gen for about 17 months and couldn't be happier with the way it rides, the mileage, and its looks. I feel very sorry for those of you who bought a new Tacoma and hate it (for whatever reason). Surely you test drove it before you plunked down $30-$40K. Life is short, if you don't like your vehicle, sell it, take your loss, and get a Ridgeline, or Ranger, or Frontier, or Canyon, or Dakota and join their forum.

P.S. Just saw this on another thread:"Go to Colorado forums and you will see 10x the issues the Tacoma owners are reporting."

Someone made a shifting mod that is supposed to help. Drives in S mode and shifts like a normal vehicle without the transmission/ECT nonsense. I can't speak for it yet, on my to do list, but might help?

Take it with a grain of salt. They didn't only rip 3rd gen. Apparently they weren't big fans of 2nd gen either, at least not in its last year of production.

"Despite a complete redesign for 2016, the Tacoma ascended from its fourth-place, bottom-of-the-segment ranking in the 2015 APEAL Study to no higher than third in the 2016 APEAL Study."

Everytime I read a review or watch one on YouTube. They always compare tacomas and other pickups to cars or sports cars. They are trucks. I wonder if these reviewers were to get into a semi truck drive it then complain when the 0-60 wasn't up to ferrari standards.

OMG. This thread is just trolling. That article honestly brings up every truth that you read every day on TW, and the first line of the conclusion is this:

"There is a sense of simplicity, honesty, and authenticity to the Toyota Tacoma. It is plainly and clearly a truck, one built for difficult work and vigorous play, and it isn’t trying to be anything else. You get the sense that it will withstand significant abuse and last for what seems like forever."

And shit, that's pretty much the consensus around here, too.

    Working on it.
Every bad review. It really shines off-road, it rides like a truck, its loud like a truck etc, etc. Using it as a commuter in down town LA on your way to Starbucks it is horrible. Well me thinks you bought the wrong vehicle. If you watch the opposite videos the Ridgeline other than being hideous, drives great one the road almost accord like some have said, then they take it off road and all goes south quickly. No ground clearance overheating transmission etc, etc.

Maybe one day there will be a midsize truck that does both equally well. Maybe the ZR number 2 will be that truck, maybe not.
