I haven't smoked a cigar in a couple years, but I do like Rocky Patel Java. No idea if that's any good or not as far as quality goes.

I smoke 3 cigars a week, Fri, Sat and Sunday nights with an adult beverage.
Been mail ordering from Cigars International. Great selection, some good deals.

Happy this thread came up. Planning a bachelor party for a friend and he loves cigars but I've never smoked one and I know he rarely does, but I think he would love having them. Any recommendations for a first timer / non regular?

The first part of advice I always give is that there are a lot of crap cigars out there. And while quality and price normally go hand in hand, there are a lot of expensive cigars that are crap too (I'm looking at you Gurkha) so it's hard to wade through it all. I would recommend something like the Padron 1926 anniversary or 1964 anniversary since it is a celebration. Their regular line, the ones with just the thousands as name such as 2000, 3000, etc. Are pretty great for inexpensive cigars as well if you don't want to go high end. I also really like Arturo Fuente and Tatuaje.

In general I would stay away from all of the non-cuban Cuban brands such as Cohiba, Montecristo, etc. They are produced by General cigar under those names to attract cigar smokers recognize the name. They are all pretty much crap. They have no relation to the Cuban brands other than stealing the names.

Stick with Padron, Arturo Fuente, Tatuaje, La Flor Dominican, or boutique brands such as Warped, Illusione, Roma Craft to name a few. You should be safe with all of those brands.

Padrons & Fuente are my favorite go to. The Padron series 64 & 26 are full bodied aged cigars. The Fuente Hemingway series are incredible.

One thing I would say though as a first time smoker I would not suggest a maduro wrapper, that tends to be a stronger cigar.

+1 on all the recommendations, especially the non Cuban Cubans. A few years back I thought I'd treat myself and bought a $15 Cohiba and learned the
expensive way. I've found that good cigars start at 7-8 bucks. Notable exceptions Fuente "8-5-8" and "Cuban Corona" .
I like a lot in the Alec Bradley line.

Awesome. I was eye balling the Fuente Corona's and thinking about ordering a box.

Romeo y Julieta (Reserva Real, Star Crossed, Anniversario)
Montecristo (Relentless, "New York" signature series)
    Arturo Fuente
    Oliva (Serie V, Serie O)
    Excalibur 1066

Been smoking cigars regularly about 15 years now, try to enjoy one every day, sometimes a couple on a good day
