I just installed a LC engineering supercharger on my 3rz. I'm wondering if a cold air intake would be worth it on a supercharged engine? I know naturally aspirated it's not worth anything, but idk if boost would change anything. I'm also looking at them to increase the supercharger whine :D. If I got one, it'd be the AFE pro dry

I know when I installed my CAI it seemed o help. I first had a K&N but it messed up my MAF so I put a dry CAI and it works great!

I've never heard of a CAI making any difference to boosted motors. If you want to increase the power and whine, get the smaller pulley. Or maybe upgrade the injectors if that's a possibility for the 4cyl model, not sure

Solely depends on how well your stock box flows. If it's not restrictive under max boost don't waste your money.
Also, since you have a first gen you can do the deck plate mod! Look it up, there's write ups and reviews on here

Only if you can handle an extra 41hp.

Do they make a 5th injector kit for the 4cyl supercharger like they make a 7th for the 3.4l? That would help too

I know about the deck plate mod. But the stock intake tube has all the silencers built into it that muffles the supercharger whine lol

Yes but it's only needed for higher boost. I'm running the low boost kit

    @Torspd you're a boost guy. Your thoughts?

@chris4x4 you've done some experimenting with CAIs on dynos. Any word on CAI for a supercharged engine?

What he said. Restrictions in an N/A system will be amplied with an F/I system.

Being that the 2.7 is The Might Mouse 4cyl of Toyota, it should respond well to any improvements in V.E. efficiency. Which again, all depends on how well the system is designed compared to the after market part.

You must remember not to blanket a cold air intake on an engine, and will it make power or not. It will always be specific to the engine and its OEM parts. One engine, one example, is not the same for every engine..

My experience with the 2.7 pre- '05 is limited. The gents down at LCE likely have dynos showing gains or not of your parts in question. They would be the ones to inquire about those details, and then report back.

Could even add some of the dynos to my F/I dyno thread.

It doesn't increases or gain more hp but definitely gain or increase mpg on my 3.4L
Cold air intake with Supercharger are a cool combo under the hood

Perhaps you could look into just replacing the stock Intake piping and still use the stock air box. Idk if something like this is available for the the 2.7. I know airaid makes one for the 3.4. Something like the pic below. Idk if you have access to a welder but it may not be too difficult to fab one up with a 45* bend and a couple small pieces of straight pipe tubing

I don't think you could find a report of a CAI actually doing anything on the internet.

I recently installed the same supercharger on my tacoma. Did you notice a big difference? I did not. I'm pretty disappointed in it to be honest with you.

Suuuuuuck. Really? What a bummer, I was always really curious on peeps opinion that had driven their same truck before and after with the blower on the 3RZ.

Maybe the high boost kit would make a big difference but I didn't want to spend a other 1000 bucks.

Did you end up going back to the 4psi pulley? Or did you leave the 6psi one on there?
