Who all here is into art?
I've never really been into art but I have an appreciation for it, my family has a few Thomas kinkade paintings and I really like them but I tend to gravitate more towards photographs.
Anyway on a cruise this past week and went to the gallery to listen to a speech about Kinkade and happened to see some cool art by an artist named Chris DeRubeis, absolutely stunning and I've never seen art like it before, the work is done with aluminum and the finished product is so radiant because of the polished aluminum pushing through the paint.

Anyway I looked through the catalog and saw this piece (sail away) and decided to take a chance and bought it without seeing it, excited to get my first work of art.

Anyway I know we have a few members who are artists, any collectors or artists are welcome to BS away!

We have quite a collection here at the house. We are up to about 275 seperate works. I have been an artist for about 10 years now, but mostly work part time.

We collect prints and ceramic works, along with paintings and a few mixed media sculptures and a few photos.

Kinkade is an artist I have mixed feelings about, but to each their own. I personally have a kinkade that was painted over by a friend from college that I really like, but its stored while we do some renovations.

If you really want to start collecting, go out and see artist starting out. Go to school shows and art walks. We find the best stuff when we just look around at places like that. We also get great stuff as trades. Sometimes for my Work, or sometimes just for my work skills. I traded a hand made hunting kinfe for a sculpture a few weeks back. I have even traded working on a truck for a hand blown glass mug.
