My 02 tacoma 2.7 4x4 has been running different lately. The engine makes a "pinging" noise when its under load, and it feels like it doesnt have much power. I dont really know how to explain the noise other than a ping. At times the truck runs fine but whenever you can here the pinging, there is a noticeable decrease in power. Has anyone else had this problem? 164,000 miles, regular maintenence.

Many many moons ago, when my truck had a 3rz, it would ping on 87 octane gas. I switched to 89 and never had the problem again.
