Where Have You Off-Roaded Today? 3rd Gen

The GF and I went for a quick run through the local desert. Nowhere special, we just wanted to test out our new lighting. This was her first time driving her new 4Runner off road, needless to say, she's hooked.

Went to check out the Wildfire damage in Naples from a few weeks back.

 

Looks great!!! I have a similar shot, but with a bit less flex:

 

I wish I could find places even half as good as these...NW Florida is the gooch of America and nothing but swamps and sand.

I try. It's very popular to have a big ass light bar above the windshield here. Most people only run them during the day on the pavement because they think it looks cool

 

Odd, as i am of the belief that having the light above your head allows you to see further down the road and to the sides for approaching wildlife, features up ahead. Your stock headlights are more then adequate on high beam to light up the trail immediately in front of you. Unless you are blasting down a trail, I see no need for a light bar below your headlights. Unless your in a dry climate, where you are then it would probably make sense. Around here PNW and anywhere you get moisture they end up covered in mud and useless anyways, hence why a lot of us put it up higher, it get less muck/debris.

Not sure either approach is right or wrong, both have their uses, always good to see how others do it, learn from it and make your own decisions for what works for each other. Generally yes though, most people put big ass light bars on their roofs and drive on the why's with them at night blinding oncoming traffic.

I'm extremely glad to have checked off the Icefield Parkway Drive down from Jasper into Banff, Ab. - this past week.

Was able to squeeze in Lake Louise stop and bombed over to Calgary for a couple hours for a look around.

Backtrip was Banff, AB to Golden, BC - through Glacier National Park to Revelstoke and South through the Okanagan to Osoyoos and finally Vancouver.


The Drive, the scenery, and the wildlife; Absolutely breathtaking.I highly recommend this Drive to everyone on TW.

Spent a couple nights in Jasper and a few night in Banff and the odd nights along the way. Plenty of places to camp off the Hwys.

What kind of tent is that on your bed rack? Looks really nice. Btw, awesome photos. Thanks for sharing.

Also got trapped between two bears.

 

Headlights are below the drivers eye level because they give a shadow to the eye behind bumps or inside holes. If you put an extremely bright light above your head, like a 50 inch LED light bar, the shadow behind bumps that your headlight creates will be blown out by the light bar.

Off road race trucks and buggies put a big light bar on top and many light bars on the bumper. The high light bar is pointed horizontally or higher and not down.

 

The tent is a AutoHome Columbus Variat; Plastidipped it red temporarily until either I wrap it (3m), or I trade up to a Baroud.

I couldn't stand the Gloss White it came in.


The rack I designed on Sketch Up* and had a buddy weld up for me...

Interesting, I still prefer to not have the shadows behind obstacles as I like to see what is there. granted i am not traveling at high speeds either when wheeling. If I was racing then yeah this makes total sense. Learn new things everyday!
