How many miles on it? We're you getting a code (CEL on)?

Of all the ones I've changed, there has not been a visual way to tell. Only the malfunction code. There may also be a way to test it. You could check the service manual.

This the ghetto way but it works...

if you have a digital multi meter you can put it in a vise, gently, do not crush it or crack the insulator. Put you digital multimeter on volts DC less than 3v scale, you want the non heater side leads and put a propane torch to the sensor and watch the voltage. It should rise as you apply heat to .9v DC and hold steady. Take the torch away and watch the voltage drop. Repeat to verify.
