I'm taking a 4-5 week road trip this summer and I'll be going through Texas. If anyone can give me some tips and pointers about what I definitely need to do or see I'd appreciate it. I started a dedicated thread for the entire trip here:

What area(s) of Texas? You could drive around Texas for 4-5 weeks and not see everything.

If you're headed to west Texas I would recommend Big Bend NP. Won't see everything but a few days there would be awesome. It will be HOT though.

Big Bend is definitely on the route. We're going to spend a couple days there and then go over to Marfa to stay at El Cosmico. The temp is why we're doing Texas first, that way it will be mid-June instead of mid-July. The rough idea of our route is posted on the main thread.

I was there last month and it was already getting hot. But you'll have a blast. Like I said we didnt do it all but we camped in the back country every night and not a soul around. If you can get it try and get a permit for the Tally #2 site. Fantastic views in the morning and you're a few min off road trail from the Rio Grand.

Pic from black gap road. Trail to get down to the Talley sites. And the view in the morning from Talley #2.
