I recently posted a survey over satisfaction with the 3rd gen. I have given it some time and collected 153 responses. This is hardly a large sampling but it's what I got. I did not do this to try and prove any point, just to give some more information to people. See the attached PDF for a full writeup on every survey question.

Enjoy and keep the comments civil :D

Pretty low marks. Over a third are experiencing Major Problems. Almost a quarter of the customers are unhappy with how Toyota has dealt with the problems. Only half of those surveyed feel the truck has No major flaws. Most feel the Transmission is frustrating.

Ehh. Sampling bias would mean that the sample space does not match the intended population. Being on a forum where people come to hate on their truck very often, I would say that the population of 'Third Gen Tacoma Owners' is not represented by this survey. This is a survey of TacomaWorld users

Hate on their truck? I thought this was an enthusiast forum and everybody loved their truck. I thought I was the only member who made all of the complaints.

Interesting, both model years represented almost equally. Almost 2/3rds feel there is NO major issues. 77% have no issues with the way Toyota is dealing with problems. 84% of the trucks have been in the shop less than a week. Almost 3/4 of the owners feel this is the typical vehicle release. Only 12% think the transmission is very frustrating. And 4 owners plan to trade their truck in.

Side note, why does the manual trans owners not equal 12% on both slides?

Ok back to reading the numbers for the positive outlook.

89% are satisfied with their truck.

All in how you see it.

About 15% of third gen owners are unsatisfied with the vehicle. 85% are satisfied which is good for a new generation release since it takes a two complete model years to work all the issues.

The automatic transmission can be frustrating at times but that is my only complaint with the truck. If I would have gotten a manual it would have been perfect.

My differential isn't leaking and I only have a minor humming noise coming from the rear end at 35-45 miles per hour that stops after driving a few miles and the truck warms up.

Overall I'm satisfied with my 3rd gen and looks like majority that responded to the survey is satisfied as well. Of course some owners got some lemons but every model from every manufacturer has lemons from mass produced vehicles.

You were enthusiastic when you bought it, until your mileage hit 6-7k?

I would be curious to see how a similar poll would look from a chevy forum. 89% are satisfied with the truck overall. That last number surprised me a little based on everything I have read here.

Traded mine.......thankfully before I received a recall notice.....the Honda dealer I traded it (for a 2016 4Runner Premium) The Honda dealership has had the truck at Toyota for a week now....I wasn't aware of a recall. Have not been on the forum for awhile.
It's one of those things that bother some people and not others. I made a good deal on the 4Runner, $750 and my 2WD TRD SPORT. IF people don't like the truck trade it.....The competitive variety of branded Dealers love Tacomas.

The 4Runner still has the reliable 4.0. I have my turbo hands filled with the Fiat 124. It has the 1.5 turbo. Not exactly a Corvette LOL

Not everyone who completed the survey answered all the questions. Not sure why.

If you split all the results between the 2 years I would expect the 2017 to do better since low fluid levels, hood problems and updated transmissions are mostly a 2016 problem. Another interesting result 2016 models represent a full year and 2017 represents only 6 months. Add it all up Toyota needs to look at these results and divide the problem between Toyota problems and Toyota dealer induced problems. I hope things get better with Toyota. I wan't my respect for Toyota to go back up at least to the level to what I thought it was before I bought my truck. What happens when you drink the koolaid and the after taste makes you sick.
