Did you get a TV with HDR? Most people who buy a 4K see no difference in picture but the jump in colour saturation with HDR, which comes on most 4k models, is what sells the TV. We bought a 60" Sony with HDR and it's incredible.

 

Anaheim kept the better goalie IMO. Healthier goalie? Who knows.

What model? I've been looking for a few weeks now.

 

I'll check when my wife is done her Netflix kick tonight lol. We bought the edge light mid range model but the HDR is a must buy for any TV you buy. I recommend Sony because they are the only TV running full android right now. Everyone else is running a custom OS that can be glitchy with apps and may not include the full Google store.

Come to think of it I have no interest in 4K until my server capacity can handle all my movies in 4K. I'd be fine with a stellar 1080p and just hop on the 4K train when they are more affordable.

 

..buying a TV because it has android on it is probably the goofiest reason I've ever read. LG and Samsung models are top dog. Sony units are overpriced and their software is painfully slow.

I've never looked into the OS's TVs run as I'd rather just hook it up to a HTPC and upgrade when needed.

 

4K isn't there yet, so this is exactly what you should be doing. I have a Samsung 4K that I got a good deal on and it's basically 4K in name only as the HDR is 'has' isn't the standard supported by UHD. Cool.

 

At the top end LG is way ahead. I would argue Samsung's tech is way over priced considering they are still trying to throw LCD LED against OLEDs at the top end. Backwards thinking.

In the mid range it's almost a dead heat and Sony wins just as many reviews/comparisons as they lose. To suggest they aren't making a great TV is silly.

It's for the wife. She hits one button to turn on the TV, change the Yamaha receiver input, and start Netflix. No other model can do that unless you buy all one brand. I'd never buy a sound bar for my main TV so Sony's software was the way to go for deadly simple operation. I totally get where you are coming from now, my buddy is running a Win 10 stock computer now that can do 4k and it's crazy. That being said his wife and kids have to call him into the room to turn it on lol.

 

No doubt in 5 years OLED, HDR, and 4k will be standard. However by then who knows what else will be available. LEDs might be small enough by then that OLED won't be the leading tech. Something better is always coming.

1080p is great for now though because almost nothing supports the new standards. However my Telus box supports 4k sports and Google Play supports HDR so I'm happy for now. Plus I only spent 1k CAD because boxing day lol.
