Did you get rid of your factory radio?

 

No, but that would involve replacing the wiring harness wouldn't it?

I've got the Pioneer single-DIN it replaced too...

 

The birds, the bees, 3rd gen diffs grinding gears for miles...

jk all for play.

 

I would at least test the single din, of course you won't have back up camera etc but maybe the radio will work.

 

Also, I think the "Safety Waiver" thing is just an unavoidable bureaucratic BS set up by Sony's lawyers...

So you definitely think it's the radio and not anything in the truck?

 

Yes! And most aftermarket radios are installed with a harness that plugs into your factory radio harness, then plugs into your new aftermarket radio. Making the switch back to factory or another radio simple

 

My factory radio is packed away somewhere. Pioneer is still sitting in my garage...

 

Okay, so my Sony XAV-W650BT appears to be a lemon.

My Sony is currently listed at $10 more than the Boss BV960NV. The Sony DOES NOT have GPS, but the Boss does. What I'm planning on doing is returning the Sony and getting my money back, and then getting Boss as a replacement. My friend has this exact same head unit (Boss) installed in his 2005 Lincoln Town Car, and he loves it. He had another Boss double-DIN head unit installed in the Lincoln for many years, and the only reason he replaced it is because it didn't have navigation and he wanted that feature.

I also have $17 in reward credits from Crutchfield, so I'll be $37 in the black. My plan is to buy the Boss, install the Boss in my Tacoma, and then get my money back for the Sony.

What do you guys think of Boss products?

 

I have always thought as Boss low end..but ive seen low priced ones with GPS that make me want one

 

I'm buying my first new aftermarket unit as well. Back in 2015 I bought a used pioneer from the forum here and I've decided to upgrade it to an apple carplay unit. Good luck with your install, should be pretty easy since you've already done it once.

 

So...

Got off the phone with Crutchfield tech support. I told them the issues I was having with the Sony. They are basically sending me the Boss for free, and I'm gonna ship the Sony back to them free of charge after my neighbor Ryan and I install the Boss. So, not gonna argue with FREE!

 

This will be my third...

I had a Pioneer single-DIN head unit and Pioneer component speakers installed back in April 2013, by a friend.

In 2016, I decided I wanted a backup camera and I'd just gotten court-ordered restitution money from the drunk guy who hit me in October 2015. I bought the Sony with the drunk's restitution money (Karma's a bitch!) in September 2016.

In May 2017, the Sony's problems are getting worse, and after talking to Crutchfield they're gonna exchange the Sony for the Boss at no charge.

Note: I still have the same Pioneer component speaker system, 4 years later. It kicks ass!

 

Trust me, @mach1man001 is the man. I have the same truck as you and needed the driver's side too.
