I meant the height of the rack. They offer 3 different sizes.

I cut it 18 inches from the top of the bed rails. It's just below the rear brake light. There was only one model length when I bought mine. 20170523_010513.jpg

lift, skids, sliders, bed rack, tent, etc.
RCI bed rack. I used a combination of RCI's Long bed taco side braces and top braces, with the 3 standard cross members. Wanted to achieve better support for the XL tepui than the short bed RCI rack provided. I've got better support and less overhang of the tent in the rear. My build thread has a bit more detail. and even at only 12" tall, I can still see perfectly out the rearview mirror and I"m 6'.

6" rise i made myself with 1.5" square tubing. Also removed the adjustable RTT mounts in favor of 3/8" grade 8 hardware. (I almost lost the tent with the tiny M6 bolts they originally come with)

Currently planning a rack similar to RCI with a twist. Gonna go around 10", pending garage measurements.

KB Voodoo long bed, tall rack. I love this thing, it was easy to bolt together and is very sturdy! Now I just need to save my pennies for a RTT lol

Made a custom bed rack. Planning on making an alloy one next.

For those who have made their own, what thickness/ gauge steel are you using?

Finishing up the latest bed rack. For some reason, this thing was a giant pain in my ass. Painting tomorrow then its on the truck Monday morning. Just about 9.75" rise. Those angles and cutting one leg too short lost me about 1/2" but no big deal. Second and third pic are comparing my old 6" rise bars.

BTW, i used 3"x1.5" rectangle and 1.5"x1.5" square in 0.120" wall. Overkill might be putting it lightly... Thing is like 80lbs+.

Thanks. Honestly, it was a pain in the ass. Weird angles and I notched a "seat" for the long cross bar to sit in. After having it done, my suggestion is go simple on the angles and take your time. Measure twice and cut once. Then measure three more times and rethink life.

What kind of clearance do you have when you mount the kayak that way? Have a tall voodoo and was trying to figure out a good way to haul two kayaks. I have the j bar racks but I like the sturdiness of laying them down flat like you have them.
