Ah HA! Found it, thanks @ODNAREM!

My name's Andy, and I've been skateboarding since I was about 9 years old. Turned 39 earlier this month, so that's about 30 years.

Grew up in Oregon and initially skated ramps but as the 90's hit, pretty much was a street rat all the way through high school. I grew up in Newport, Oregon and although the weather sucked, we skated as much as we could and the Performing Arts Center there even let us build and store ramps in their pretty good sized parking lot. Mainly QPs and slant ramps and shit like that.

Fast forward to about 1999 and after almost 10 years of lobbying, we finally got our city council to agree to build us a concrete skatepark.
One of the things about Newport is that it's south of a smaller town to the North called Lincoln City... A few of you here may have heard of it...

As it turned out, a few of the dudes who were in the process of re-building Lincoln City (the original was a POS thing that the city let the locals DIY) were surfers and knew our surf shop's owners (Ocean Pulse, represent!) and through a bunch of crazy circumstances all the locals in Newport chipped in here and there and I have the distinct privlige to have worked side by side with Mark "Red" Scott, Mark Hubbard, Sage, Geth Noble, Stefan Hauser and a bunch of the other dudes who originally built Burnside. Lincoln City was my first exposure to REAL concrete vert and that year it made it onto the cover of Thrasher as "The Gnarliest Skatepark in America", which we all were super hyped about (I still have that issue). Those guys who build LC went on to create Dreamland, Grindline, Placed to Ride and Airspeed Skateparks, respectively.

After LC was completed, we "recruited" a few of the dudes to help us with our park in Newport, which at that time had already broken ground.

Now... I won't go into all the details but another builder (Eric Dawkins from Southern Oregon who built the Ashland, Jacksonville, Medford and Talent skateparks), had originally "won" the contract for Newport's skatepark but needless to say... The dude was a fucking kook and was blowing it. Geth and Stefan basically "saved" our park in Newport. It's not the biggest skatepark, or the best designed and it's totally fallen into disrepair lately but I had SO much fun skating the "speed doughnut" of Newport.

What's crazy to me is that one of the little groms who started skating because the Newport skatepark was there has gone on to compete at the X-Games and Bowl-o-Rama and a shitton of other contests but is a ruler... Kevin Kowolski.
Not that it matters much but me and my dad still have ceramic tiles at the Newport skatepark.

I've lived in Arizona for 13 years and there are some KILLER parks here. My story kind of took a turn that I didn't expect 2 years ago when I blew out my PCL at the Tempe skatepark.
Basically bailed on a routine b/s stall and went to my knees (padded) and just... well, my old tendons couldn't take it and the left knee had had enough.
In August of 2015 I had full "reconstructive" surgery on my PCL, which consisted of a cadaver's Achilles tendon being put in to replace the shredded one I had. Recovery was a full 6 months.

To date, I'm still not exactly 100% but I am skating again. I got a Breg knee brace (more than the cost of Kings, seriously) and even had custom pads made by 187 that fit with it.
I am getting out more little-by-little but it's been a struggle. :anonymous:
However, both my girls have skateboards now (I got my 6 year old her first real board for her birthday last March) so they are helping motivate me to get back on board and shake the dust off. :transformer:

I have been a skater for so long that I can't help to identify myself as one. It's all I know. It's a huge part of who I am and influenced my life in so many positive ways.

One of the planned mods I have is to build a rack system so I can mount all three of the boards me and my daughters have so they don't bash around in the bed when we drive to the park.

I was never a "great" skater, but I could handle myself on board.

If it wasn't so goddamn hot this weekend... if probably try to go skate.

I used to be a part of a group that, surprise surprise, had an online forum that was actually global.
The name of the group, which for a little while became an actual skate company that made boards and other merch was Old Man Army... :D

I helped them manage their forum and did design work for a couple boards and their catalogs. Wish thwy were still around in the same capacity but the owners went different ways and it's pretty much a bro-flo only type of deal now.

I went by the same handle on that forum, too.:p

There is a skateboard press on my local Craigslist..and I was a graphic designer before my current profession..but I still am technically employed by a company to design. I'm more than half tempted to design skateboards and just do it in my garage..
I grew up doing art solely because VCJ and Jim Phillips from Powell Peralta and Santa Cruz decks..Zorlac and SMA.

    Who's skating this weekend...?

Only supposed to be about 100˚ here. Might be bearable to hit the parks at 7am.

My fat ass needs to go sweat and bleed out at the skatepark over the holiday!

I got notification on Monday that the very limited run of Natas Kitten Santa Cruz/Santa Monica Airlines re-issue shipped and will be at my house next week. Slowest. Delivery. EVER.

Super DUPER stoked on getting this deck. I could sell all the other ones and seriously be quite happy only having my Natas kitteh.
