Well I decided to do a write up on how to do a Safari Snorkel on a first gen that has Bushwacker Cut Out flares.

Here is a good write up with instructions on how to install the snorkel. This is what I used to install the snorkel.
    http://www.expeditionswest.com/equipment/tacoma/snorkel.html

First step is to take off your flares.
Take off the inner fender. I just pulled mine down and away.
Take off the antenna and pull it out of the way.
Then set up the given template on your fender.

Mark your holes with a fine tip marker or pen
Pull the template off and start drilling
I used a 3 1/4" Holesaw and it worked awesome.
Im not sure what sized bits I used but i started smaller and worked my way up until the bolts fit throught the fender.

Now that drilling is done, test fit the snorkel. Have the A pillar support loosely bolted to the snorkel.

Mark the 3 holes in the support on the A-pillar. Remove the snorkel and drill your holes.
Refit the snorkel on and make sure the support holes line up. Remove the snorkel and tap the plastic bushings into the 3 holes. Refit the snorkel again, and start bolting everything down.

Now its time to plumb the snorkel. Unbolt the 2 bolts holding the factory tubing in the fender. Get the new tube piece and place on the snorkel and loosely clamp it. Attach the factory tubing to the new tubing and loosely clamp it down. Bolt the factory tubing back in place and tighten all clamps.

Replace the antenna back in place. Replace the inner fender.

The Bushwacker flare will need to be shaped to fit around the snorkel. In the photos below you can see a dirt line on how far the fender is off from where it originally was.

I used a dremel with a die grinder end to shape it. I did this with the fender off the truck and kept testing it as I went. Do a little at a time and keep trying to fit it.

You will lose one mounting bolt but it will be fine with out it.
Use black silicon to fill the gap between the snorkel and the flare.
    Now your Done!!!! :D

Nice work. Looks clean. Now someone needs to do that with a snorkel and fiberglass fenders. :)

Boxrocket bumper that he is making has side tubes that come pretty close to the stock flares. Won't fit without a lot of trimming. Thanks though

I can make the side tubes shorter if you want to run Cutout flares. Not a big deal on my end. We can make it work

That's ok. I would rather not change the bumper. I like the way it looks now.

I have wraparound plate on my elite and mine still has about 2 inches before it touches the flare... however I am going back and cutting more and widening the flares so they touch and it looks right... in reality you can set the flare wherever you want so I think it could still work

I see. Yeah I'm going to hold off for now and run it with the stock flares. Good to know that you can make it work without trimming the rear. Maybe in the future. Thanks again

Hey man, I'm trying to put on the Bushwacker cut out fender flares on my 4 door tacoma and I really need help. I noticed that on the rear, it's not technically for a double cab. And it looks like you shouldn't even cut out anything. How did you do yours? I need help like ASAP if you can:(

It's honestly been so long ago that I'm not sure exactly anymore. However I'm fairly certain with the cutouts that you didn't have to cut the fenders if you didn't want to. It just depended on the size tire you were running

Thanks man, I think I'm just not going to cut the rear because I don't have any issues with them now. I know it had been a while since you posted it. I'm sorry, but thank you!

    A few.
Nice write up, it answers my question perfectly. I'm toying with the idea of replacing my cold air intake with a snorkel, and I'm running bushwacker cutouts. Looking at the pictures I figured there would be some clearance issues. When in doubt, cut it out! :sawzall:

I hate to be "that guy" reviving an old thread, however, I can't find a set of Bushwacker pocket flares for a 1st gen double cab to save my LIFE! The only set I can find are for single or extended cab. I find this odd as I would think it would be the same set, but @sander1036, can you point out where you picked up your set?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Cheers
