As noted above, for the transmission - talk to a reputable transmission shop. With the bumper and hitch being bent down, look under the rear of the truck at the section of the frame right behind the rear spring mount. Make sure that isn't bent. There is a spot where the lower part of the 'C' on the frame between the receiver mount and rear shackle spring mount that will bend/wrinkle when the hitch takes the brunt of a hit.

    Shitty situation man. Sucks.

I dont think the damage is as bad as you may believe. These trucks can take some punishment thats for sure.

I am with you,but by law they only have too pay what the book of Nada has it listed at for the year and very good condition, and with Tacomas being in high demand that means people are paying a lot more for them than what the book value is stating, which is what the insurance goes by in deciding payout.Just be aware of that.

Transmission probably OK. Sure as hell looks like it was more than a 'bump'! GLWF

If I were to put money on it:

    Trans and Steering are fine
some minor body work and you'll be on the road again.

the "book of NADA" is not the bible. Market value can be determined using different methods. I use market searches to determine value.

In my area, if you are paying what NADA says is retail for any vehicle, the dealership is really giving it to you.

This of course will end up not being relevant, looks like not near enough damage to total it based on pics.

Right on. I doubt there was enough speed involved to bend the frame, but that spot is a weak point on these trucks. You can also tell by looking at where the receiver bolts to the rails. If the receiver has moved at all, you can see any movement there indicating very minor frame damage.

They don't owe you what you paid 2 months ago. I bet you put miles on it since then.... every mile counts.

Ok princess. Your expectations for a settlement are understandable but unrealistic. You will not make money on the insurance claim nor should you expect brand new factory replacements. That will only happen if you pay for it.

You are thinking a brand new trans from Toyota is the only truefix. Toyota could fuck up the install while a rebuild could be just fine. I think you emphasize a "clean" accident record too much. An accident doesn't always spell future issues with a vehicle. Vehicles can be repaired.

Frame damage is what I would fear. If my frame was bent I'd want a total.

Make sure the assessor looks at everything and you get someone to inspect the trans if you are worried.

If I heard my truck get smashed into I doubt I would hear the transmission make noise but that was probably because it was in park.

    Let us know what happens

    A few things:
    1. Parking pawl, not parking paw.
    2. Your insurance company will give you what they decide to give you, constrained by state insurance commission rules and what kind of policy you bought.
    3. If you didn't buy "full replacement value with no loss to me" coverage, what you want and what they give may be quite far apart. Sure, you can press their estimate with documented proof of current sales values in your area, but "I paid $xxxx a few months ago" may simply elicit a statement that they think you overpaid.
    4. If they decide to fix it and you don't have "new / OEM part coverage" you may find yourself with aftermarket or reconditioned parts. With it being a 7-year-old truck with 65k miles, it would be surprising if you have "OEM only" coverage, at least around here.

I 100 percent guarantee ill get what i paid or more for the truck. Statements like "you have no control bend over and take it" may apply to the masses. Not to me.. i asked about the tranny. I got my info. Thanks for all who have contributed. Im good

They ratchet when thrown in to park. Never hear of one doing that after getting hit.

And i didnt overpay. Ot was a lot for me to pay 22k but in my region people want 20k for 10 year old tacoma 2 wheel drives with 150k miles. A 2010 with 65k one owner, spotless and dealer maintained isnt something you can regularly find. Not at all in my region. They are too in demand. And def. Not from the very reputable Ford dealer i got mine from with a true powertrain warranty through the dealer(and ive confirmed they would fix anything that needed fixed and pay Toyota to do it) Ive got more than the normal amount of advantages here. The guy whos wife hit me is in my neighborhood and well off. If the insurance company shorts me. He will take up the slack. They went out of their way to tell me that. He will fight his insurance company. His agent is a close friend. Ive been getting call and text updates from both of them them regularly.. they want to make me happy no matter what. Ive got the red carpet treatment here. I think ill be ok.. ive got the vehicle. Im in control.. If it came to it i would use my insurance company to leverage the situation. Theres no vehicile they can show me locally that would dispute my value claim. Im not known as a pushover. I have a reputation for making things happen..

I have doubts that you will be willing to actually tell the truth of the resolution when done.

Even if the frame is bent in the rear it's probably a 800 fix.

It's a old truck and normally they will repair with aftermarket or salvage parts.

Even extended warranty from Toyota will use salvage engines/transmission for claims.
