I have a 16' Taco V6, XP Rock Star Pkg, I was wondering how many miles was everyone getting out of a tank of gas? When I fill up the data screen says I have 385 before empty and I think the most I've got out of a full tank before I fill up was I think 365, I filled it up and the gas pump registered I put in like 17.4 gal. Just Curious

I just put on a 500 Mi round trip on the wknd.... I "babied my Auto tranny and used cruise except when hills got too big.... I then took over and used a very soft pedal and used N on the downhills.... I was VERY surprised... I normally get +-630 KM/Tank and this tank I got 730 KMS.....

That would be about 28.5 CDN....MPG and in Merican that would be....25.33 US MPG..

It CAN do good if you drive like I did...!!

PS... No more than 10 KMS over and only went more than 10 limit on the larger downhills, where the Tranny would like downshift on it's own...N is your friend..!!

There's like a 3 gal reserve even when you hit E and the DTE goes to 0.

@PJnc284 I'd kill for those gas prices :(

I filled up over the weekend for $1.27/Liter CDN... that's like $3.55/gallon US *sigh*

Not to contradict , but to the best of my knowledge, coasting with an automatic transmission in neutral won't cause any harm, however, chances are pretty good it won't save you any gas either.
If you have electronic fuel injection and your foot is off the accelerator, the computer will only inject enough fuel to maintain idle speed (lets say, 500 rpms). If you are coasting downhill in gear, the wheels and gears are pushing the engine at (lets say) 2000 rpms, so the computer injects zero fuel. But if you put it in neutral, the idle returns to 500 rpms because the computer starts injecting enough fuel to maintain 500 rpms.
So if you coast, foot off the accelerator, transmission in gear, no fuel is being injected. In neutral, the EFI injects enough gas to maintain idle.

average 400 per tank when I fill up and have 3 gallons left in the tank. That is combination of local and highway driving and not too agressive on the gas.

My data screen consistently said 416, but I used ethanol free gas exclusively so that probably helped.

Access cab is lighter than double cab, so that probably also contributes to gas mileage.

I always wonder how that number is calculated.

I watched on my last couple trips and it usually moves 2 miles on the dash for every mile I actually drive.

Puttting the truck in Neutral while going down a hill or deaccellerating decreases gas mileage. Your truck has to use fuel to keep it idling. If you're in gear, the injectors cut off.

Shifting your auto manually will net you 600-700 miles per tank. I read it here so it must be true.

Negative. At idle in neutral the engine consumes fuel. While coasting to a stop or down hill while in gear the engine is not using fuel. It's also dangerous and illegal in some places to coast in neutral.

    From Populr Mechanics.

    Exactly!!!

    Exactly x2

410 miles on average until the light comes on, but I've been as high as 470 to the light.

So even in the manual, one shouldn't go to N and coast.

    The more you know!
