So I'm on the verg of exploding, I've gone through 4 different rear pinion seals, some don't fit right and some are getting shredded while I drive. I grease them heavily on install, torque the pinion nut down to the exact inch pound, my pinion bearing is not bad and I don't have driveline vibrations.
It seems every autopart store in town is giving me a different seal that doesn't fit. Slightly infuriating.
I realize I probably need to go online and order the exact seal, but shouldn't an autopart store in town carry the right seal for gods sake.
Where have y'all gotten your new seals from? Thanks

The same advanced auto parts gave me the two different National seal's on two different occasions. I gave them the exact same truck specs both times. Upon measuring, the center openings are different by a few mm's. I believe this caused one of them to be too tight and shredded the inner lip of the seal.

that first one 710697 is for the front diff, or (i think) if you have a 8" factory locker.
the 710525 is for the 8.4 rear diff.

    what diff do you have?

I have a non locking non trd rear. I'm almost positive that it is the 8.4 rear.

Napa one is 17803. I put a crap ton of grease on the edge of the seal. I rigged up a 2 inch pvc pipe end cap that fits perfectly around the seal and tap it in with a rubber mallet.

yea the skf one is the correct one too (8.4 diff), and your way of installing is about what i would do. makes sure to really lube up the seal section too.

What can I put over/on my exposed pinion and diff components to prevent any moisture or rust from forming while I wait a week for this seal to arrive?

Make sure you clean any rust or buildup around the housing that the seal drives into. If it rusty or has crap in it , it may not be seating correct or binding on install.
