so i have a 04 prerunner xtra cab, and the speakers need a rework. no bass. highs and mids are great, but no bass sucks. anyway, what size are the speakers by the jump seats? and any pics of your installs?

Yes! If you wanna go boom boom you need to throw in a good quality sub. I went with Focal fronts+rears with a 10" sub and two Alpine amps. Crystal clear and nice tight bass

I've got 10' in a bandpass box with amp. But it's a Lil overkill for the truck..I'd have no room in there.

At 41, me too! :D But I was looking for the same thing. The peeps over at Crutchfield will point you in the right direction. I don't believe I could have went with 6x9's in the access cab without modifications. The 5x7's are definitely the weak link in my system. Not sure if you have a stock head unit but replacing my head unit definitely made my stock speakers a lot better!

The front door speakers are 5-1/4"s. They also have an option to put 6.5's in your kick panels which will definitely bring a little more bass in.

The options are endless. I grabbed mine (a double din) off of a guy at work. If you punch in your vehicle in the Crutchfield website and specify your looking for a head unit it'll give you 4 pages of options. Someday I'm going to switch out mine for one with GPS.

incorrect. the fronts are also 5x7, but very shallow (only a few brands will work). there are adapters to get 5 1/4 & 6 1/2 (I have these) in there though.

You are correct sir. I just remembered I went with a Scoshe adapter to make my 5-1/4's fit.

the only problem with that is the location of the head unit. I generally use my phone with a windshield mount for GPS. Google Maps/Waze is updated constantly compared to built-in GPS :(

I had a really good 4 channel amplifier installed under the passenger seat and replaced all the existing speakers (6" I believe) with Bose speakers and I had some MB Quartz speakers (1 1/2" dia.)installed on the doors opposite of the outside side mirrors. Those are my highs and I simply bought a 10" Bazooka speaker for my bass which sits on the floor board. I kept my original radio that came with the truck to keep thieves away. I've learned the hard way. All that is simple but effective cause I HAVE to have my music.

Agreed. I can't stand that it's so low. It sucks that it took them so long to figure out that a head unit makes more sense up high vs low. I totaled a 95 Taurus by simply hitting the eject button. Two seconds, eyes off the road and F-250 decided to stop on the highway
