Anyone have any ideas on what would cause a rough idling issue? Moving the steering wheel will make it want to stall, and even when it's just idling with no loads put on it the rpm isn't consistent at one rpm. We're talking about a 500-1000 rpm range. Dealer can't do anything. I tried cleaning the throttle body but no luck. Truck used to idle so well. The only other thing I can add is that coming to a stop while in neutral or the clutch pushed in all the way the car has the tendency to drop well below idle before surging to 1k.

Sounds like the Power Steering Pump is putting a load on the engine if you said while turning the wheel.

Try disconnecting the negative battery terminal (10mm hex) for 1/2 hr at least. Resets the ECU for throttle and I think the idle is part of that... funny the dealer didn't try it.
I have a manual and I just did that when I changed to a trd air box and my idle was smoother noticed it right away first start up....

That was done 150 miles age. Really the issue came back after 50 miles(1/4 of a tank for me). I need a long term solution. I've tried looking for vacuum leaks but no luck.

Take to dealer? It's under warranty right? Sounds like a symptom of thirdgen syndrome

This is a customer interview chart for rough idle to get the tech headed in the right direction.

I'll spray the MAF with some cleaner, and change the air filter.

Any update on this? I'm noticing my truck recently drops the idle way down when I push in the clutch and then comes back up to about 1000 rpm when I'm pushing the clutch in to come to a stop. Does it more when cold.

Normal. Idle is like 550 to 600 rpm. When it jumps to 1000 with clutch in and brakes on....it's trying to warm up faster. If you turn the fan completely off...it should stay at idle.

I can feel the whole engine shimmy and shake when it does this though, is that normal?

Is that your selling dealer or ?
Did they even acknowledge there is a problem?

Call Toyota U.S.A. consumer services (800-331-4331) and make a record of it.

I just picked mine up yesterday. Have about 100 miles on it. Same deal. The RPMs drop and the whole truck shakes. You can really feel it in the shifter. I will give it another 400 miles and take it in if it doesn't go away.

Did you ever get to the root cause / fix of this?
