I sold my wheels and bought Konig Countersteer Type Xs in 17x8. I went with the ST Maxx from Cooper because it's a load range D in 315/70/17. They have a nice ride. I'm putting Dakars on the back of mine in the next week also.

I was still in warranty when my left shock failed. It was covered in fluid and they actually pointed it out to me. Then they ordered me a new TRD OR shock and informed me it didnt fit... truck was sitting for about 3 weeks for the whole process.

O so I took the Firestone airbags off my truck so I can take it in to the dealer and get them to warranty the left rear shock and hopefully the leafsprings. If they don't warranty the shock what shocks have you guys and gals replaced them with?

    Well
Also waiting to hear the same lol. Since Ive decieded to keep my truck, and get an outback for the dogs I need to start making a shopping list.

But I just got the TSB done on my truck for the engine pinging. My God its wonderful now. Quieter, exhaust is quieter under the cab, smoother, accelerates better, more responsive..

Im still considering the 4Runner TRD wheels. I just noticed they are a bit narrower then the Fake Bead ones. Is that going to negatively affect me at all? Im pretty sure the reason I dont like our wheels is because Im not a fan of deep dish style wheels. Has anyone tried the 17 Pro wheels to see what they look like?

My passenger side shock blew at 37,000 but had the extended warranty. I know it is a Toyota and it is the first time I've ever purchased an extended warranty but been around the block. More than a few times. Which is why I had the dealer install the Firestone ride rites for me too. Cost me but in the end it paid off.

I do really like the Baja suspension package and when I did my test drive did it on a washboard dirt road a mile from the dealer. And was immediately sold. But now the drivers side shock, lines and everything else is starting to rust out despite spraying Fluid Film. Hard call, my feeling is that the other one is going to go also. So switching to something else may not be a bad idea. Doubt they will do anything about the leafs it is just how they all are now including my Xterra no joy there either. Both are a far cry from the FJ55 Iron Pig I had back in the late 70's and 80's. I will stay with the Baja and Toyota OEM for now but over 120K will most likely switch out, see how it goes. The Ride Rites are working well for me, for now. I wish you luck! Tough call.

    Thanks man.

The leafsprings I actually have covered (bought a set of newer oem leafsprings with wheelers 3 leaf add a leaf already installed from another member here a couple months back) if the warranty company doesn't replace them which I'm guessing they'll find a way to screw me out of that but I don't see how they can refuse the replacement of the shock.

Those of you who have replaced the rear shocks with something different what did you go with and how have they lasted and performed so far?

I have 27k and a clunking rear shock. I'm going to replace them with non-reservoir Fox shocks. My off roading is muddy construction sites and access roads. Resi shocks are overkill.

Has anyone successfully contacted Bilstein about rebuilds?

According to Bilsteins site it is $120 per shock to rebuild and about 12 weeks. So we would need to buy a spare set of shocks, mount them for 3 months, send the OEMs out for $240 (plus shipping) and reinstalll. Or you can buy a new set of 5160s for $370.

That's fucked, not worth the cost of rebuilt or new since they only last 30k miles (on my truck) and even less on other. Damn.

The life span on these shocks is astounding. My old truck was a 2011 Silverado Z71 with Racho shocks. I sold that truck two months ago with 178k on it and the original shocks. No leaks, still rode great despite beating the crap out of the truck. Everything else was falling apart but the shocks were fine.

Anyone interested in a group by on a replacement shock?

Hmm, all the recent posts about shock failure has got me really considering on selling mine. Already have been looking into replacement leaf pack since I'm starting to sag in the rear a bit, but I was planning on upgrading to Kings once these bilsteins give out.
